Do you think fashion designers play tricks?

Sometimes I think some fashion designers purposely make ugly items once in a while just to see if they can convince people that the items are "cool". And then laugh at the idiots who buy and wear the stuff.

I've been saying that for year's, it's marketing genius. Make something so shit and charge so much and stupid girls (mostly) and boys will buy it. You say once in a while but really look around, it dominates fashion
ugg boots - must be designed by a six year old at a school competition
PINK - cheaper than walmart quality sweats with the word pink STENCILED on literally a $3 shirt sells for $60
    Ed Hardy - nuff said
    juicy couture also nuff said.
The list goes on but I'm typing this on my phone.

I think it gets confusing being so immersed in that world all the time, and sometimes that turns out stuff like black and yellow plaid or crocs.

At the same time, I think they're generally trying to convey something through their art. It seems likely that when a designer wants to convey ideas that aren't entirely honky-dorey, the result is a garment that is less traditionally beautiful.

I agree I am a fashion designer. some people purposely push the boundaries for fun but then people take it seriously and wear it like its the next biggest thing. But hey how ever you want to express yourself so be it.

I think so. I'm pretty sure I heard a TV interior designer say the other day that "Bad Taste" was back in fashion, as people were becoming bored of minimalist interiors and needed an injection of "fun" in their homes. LMAO it seems they always find a way of selling it to the masses, doesn't it? They even tried to revive double denim!

Much as I laugh at high fashion, I see what they're trying to do. The stuff they show on the catwalk is an exaggeration of what next season's style is going to be. You rarely actually get stuff like that in the shops, but it's influenced by it.

A bit like supercars. The design of the cars people actually drive are influenced more than you might think by Italian supercars (often Ferraris, despite Lamborghinis being much more interesting).

    • Yes, I agree with what you said, but I meant stuff that actually is sold in stores. An example I can think of right off is some certain high-end purses.

  • Could be, just like it can't be. I think both can happen depending on the person.
