Do you think bet promotes racism

Basically for reasons I'm not going to discuss I have watched BET a lot more than an hour a day everyday for a year. Every time I do I think the characters are of low intelligence, promote stereotypes, and have very little depth.Their trademark programs (the game, and 106 and park mostly everything else are reruns that originally aired on a different network) are poorly written, directed, and acted in. The movies are usually terrible that play with a few exceptions most notably Ray. The music is terrible, by the way I love rap, the music they play represents the most ignorant and shallow portion of hip hop. I hate BET so much and think watching it religiously is such a reflection of someone's character that I would stop talking romantically to anyone if this fact came to my attention. I'm white by the way and don't comment just quit watching it that's not an option

Yes 34
No 2
Depends on the program 6
I don't know I've never watched it 22
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

      To OP

The answer to the title is...

Naw, never. They'd never discriminate at all. After all it is tv meant for one race.

I don't know about promoting racsim but I'm black and I think it's ignorant too. Like my father use to say, all they do is talk about how great they are and show half naked women. By the way BET is not run by black people. It was bought out. Most of the channel is reruns and bad production because that is what saves money. I don't know why they mostly only show bad music though. Sometimes I think its some kind of scheme to make the younger generation stupid.

What about Tyler Perry?? Is he innocent? I think not.

Yeah, BET sucks, it's so dumbed down. Gee, fat guy ate all the pie again, everyone's lazy except the 2 people who actually have a job, someone's pregnant....blah, blah. Waiting for the dance-off. You know it's coming.

And how many times can one say 'nappy headed' in one episode? Really!!

I don't watch that shit, I saw like 30 min of it and knew it was garbage. Same with all those Tyler Perry shows....lame ass jokes and stupid plots.

I think it promotes racism because of how it segregates its audience by calling their programs "black entertainment." As Morgan Freeman, or God, said, "the best way to end racism is to stop talking about it."

Not true. You will never end racism and to not talk about it is dangerous.

I respect your opinion, but I believe that by not mentioning someone's race we can become more whole. I mean it's like how when you take you STAR Exams they usually make you feel out your ethnicity, why can't we just have one box that says American? Or just not have a section like that at all. Without the mention of a person's race they become indistinguishable from the rest of the people, thus unity.

My parents never talked to me about racism, I never even noticed skin color.

I didn't even know that black people and white people DID dislike eachother until some black people told me that white people are racist against black people =/ That Freedman fella has a good head on his shoulders...

        • Actually there have been studies and those ethnicity questionnaires tend to affect people's scores negatively. It's hard to tell why this is the case for certain but it probably has to do with racial stereotypes and people's perceptions of their abilities being affected by them identifying with a group that is stereotypically and incorrectly presumed to be less intelligent. It's amazing we live in a country saturated with racism against black Americans and we freely elected one to the highest political position we have

He was elected because he Seemed the lesser of two evils. Now I think people realize both evils were the same.

Well I think that we elected Obama because of his ethnicity. He shows other blacks what they are capable of. And that is interesting to know about the effect of those questionnaires.

      BET = Black Entertainment Television.

It's a television network that is broadcast over satellite/cable.

I've never seen it and I don't know anything about it so I don't really think I should comment.
