It's clearly less awful than "female circumcision" but interfering with a baby's genitals when it's not a medical necessity is clearly abusive.
In general that's true (about it being less awful) but female genital cutting can describe a variety of practices, including one that really is equivalent, where they only remove the clitoral hood.
And guess what? When it's done to a girl everyone in the civilized world STILL considers it awful. A while ago there was a controversy when a pediatric group in the US suggested it would be OK to do a symbolic nick on girls to satisfy parents and hopefully stop them from doing something more drastic elsewhere. And this still horrified people, even though it's obviously minor compared to what is done to boys.
I'm circumcised and it doesn't bother me any.
I hear there are issues of cleanliness if left uncircumcised and I'm glad I don't have to think about that.
There aren't issues of cleanliness :P It's not that hard to pull down the foreskin and wash your damn penis. Without foreskin to protect the penis men gets less out from sexual stimulation.
If you have never known what it feels like to have a normal penis you don't even know what you are missing though.
I was circumcised as a baby and i love my dick...a loose piece of skin that was cut off is no skin off my nose! pardon the pun...I promise you that I have a super sex life, my dicks head is as tough as a buffalo's hide, and I would out last most uncircumcised men whilst doing the deed! Thank you Daddy!
The only instance where circumcision (of both sexes) is okay is when a grown man or woman willingly undergoes it. In any other situation it is mutilation as well as child abuse.
Yes. Holding a little child down to cut off a part of their natural body while they cry and could make the decision if they wanted to later in life, is mutilation in my eyes.
You don't think so? Would you consider female circumcision mutilation? If yes, then unless you're a sexist douche, you should see male circumcision the same, if no, well, then you're pretty much a double douche.
I would call it "modification" rather than mutilation. People pierce their bodies and get tattoos and all that (which serve no medical purpose). I am American so I may have been raised to believe its the normal thing, but I have known people who had to get it done at an older age because of medical problems and it is certainly NOT. It should be either done as a baby or not. Its not the same as female circumcision which is done strictly for misogynist reasons and is often performed in unsanitary conditions when the girl is 4-8 years old and traumatic.
I was circumcised as a kid & certainly don't feel that I was abused or I'm missing out on anything (except obviously some skin)
I prefer it, although I obviously have nothing to compare to...
Was something to do with health reasons, I dunno, was too young to remember it, but if it was a necessary thing I'd rather it as a kid than an adult.
Whether I would get my own kids chopped is a different story...
Everything you do towards another human being without their consent is mutilation and should be frowned upon and illegal ...
A penis is SUPPOSED to have foreskin.
Everything you do towards another human being without their consent is mutilation and should be frowned upon and illegal?
Do you mean, every form of cutting or bodily alteration without consent? I don't think it makes sense to say that 'everything' one does towards another human being without their consent is 'mutilation'... I don't like it when a stranger walks past and put their hand on my shoulder, but it would seem absurd to call that 'mutilation'.
If you do it without consent, it's mutilation. Unless not doing it would result in immediate death or something, which is highly unlikely.
Do I consider cutting off part of a little baby's penis to be mutilation?
Why yes. Yes I do.
No, my definition of "mutiliation" is quite a bit more extreme than circumcision. Circumcision, in a vast majority of cases, doesn't actually change your life in any meaningful way. I also don't think it's child abuse because the child isn't being abused.
People overreact pretty hard to this, and that makes it hard for me to support their cause. I was circumcised and my life wasn't ruined, there were no "complications", I don't hate my parents, I have no desire to get it back, and I'm plenty sensitive.
Basically, people throwing around the word "mutiliation" on this subject pisses me off. It doesn't fit and it's not applicable. The word conjures up actually-serious injuries and life-changing events. Not the cutting of a redundant piece of skin.
To be clear, I'm NOT saying it's a good practice. It's just not mutilation.
The girls that I've talked to enjoy a circumcised penis because they look normal to them
The roots of circumcision are found in religion. Another reason why I hate religion and why im growing my foreskin back.
Here's a list of complications:

I don't see how it's mutilation- it's prevents you from getting diseases and is more comfortable once u get used to it. Don't need to circumcise a person if they hardly have any foreskin though.
Lol at the poll. Must be a lot of turtle necks on this site.
I've seen this discussion brought up on other forums before. I've noticed the only people who seem to have a strong opinion on the subject are almost exclusively uncut guys.
You are a weak troll sweetie. As if they know the baby is gonna be a fag.
I guess ignorance is bliss, in your case; "circumcision (called khitan) is practiced nearly universally by Muslim males" DUMBASS!
Way to be a graceful fool. Why can't you man up and admit you made a foolish, ignorant statement? I've lost all respect for you. You have no honor, sir.
