Do you think anyone else could've pulled tyler durden off?

Was just watching Fight Club for the umpteenth time. Looking at Tyler I tried to picture other actors in the role. I only thought of two other who could wear those Salvation Army clothes and still look amazing. Javier Bardem and Benicio del Toro, maybe?

Yes! Who? 15
No! Brad Pitt's tha man 18

Brad Pitt had that touch of craziness that the character needed, any other actor would have been to sedate.

Not true. He's mediocre/weak sauce compared to most actors.
Tom Hardy. He definitely would have been a great Tyler 2.

      • I have to agree with HandSignals here. Tom Hardy? Why? Tyler Durden was a character that pulled off the serious and playfully boyish look thart made Tyler Durden Tyler Durden. Tom really doesn't have the look to play him. Lol

Not at all. Ironically Fight Club was just airing on HBO an hour ago. So I watched it for the zillionth time. Analyzing Brad's performance again, he was pulling off an act any actor can; crazy. Anyone can act "crazy" in the acting world, it's why most start with horror movies. Which was actually one of Pitt's first roles. Smug, matter-of-fact and attractive was pretty much the sum of his role as Tyler; when gets serious with Edward Norton nearing the ending scenes, it is laughable.

On to Tom. If anyone has seen his work: Lawless, The Dark Night (bane) Warrior, Bronson, and especially RockNRolla (another great must-see movie)
He's incredibly versatile, talented and can pull off the same "crazy", while delivering the incredibly good looking and sex appeal -- just as well or better than Pitt did. Even in his goofy romantic movie, "This means war". He showed how dynamic he is. He hones a similar appeal.. the "crazy hot, yet insightful" type.

He's just my top pick. Ryan Gosling was a close second.

I've always loved Pitt, but only for his looks. He's up there with Marky Mark, in terms of useless one-dimensional actors. Overrated. But damn hot.

Missed the "boyish" part. Uh, Brad didn't pull off a boyish look. That would be his earlier work.

Tyler was a no-nonsense, anti-big corporation type. He was intended to appear as rugged, yet the "dream" in terms of looks, intelligence, passion and strengths that Edward's character wanted yet lacked, before creating Tyler as his outlet.
Tyler's care-free attitude and persona, aimed towards "live the life you want". Not succumb to corporate corruption, bullshit and monotonous pathetic life Norton was living; hence setting ablaze his own condo. He wanted out to make a point in his Project-X... using this new ego and persona.

Tom, at the age Brad was, looked quite similar. Tom is just a better actor. He, if boyish attitude were necessary, definitely had that going on too.

          • I just wanna say that I haven't thumbed you down. I've not really read your comments completely (not much in to responding with long posts which would end up happening) so I didn't thumb you down either since I didn't response.

I will say that we can prefer characters being displayed by different actors just like we prefer different genres over the other. So your opinion isn't "wrong" as much as it is just a different opinion which depends on preference which doesn't fit mine but can fit many others.

            :)

Ah, no worries. I didn't think it was you :)

I know who it is. It's my thumb-troll, slash stalker. "N0tTheSun" and a few other usernames/accounts they have and go by. This user is obsessed with me.

And yeah, no one is right or wrong in their preference for certain actors. It's relative.

Unless you've seen his work. It's no joke how versatile and impressive he is.

If I said, "Duh, Justin Timberlake".. Now that is a joke.

I think Jared Leto could have pulled of Tyler Durden. He was of course already busy playing the part of Angel Face, so they would have had to recast that part too

  • Bencio Del Toro is one I thought of. Then again he is basically an Asian looking Brad Pitt so maybe that is why. Lol.

I actually do not think Brad Pitt is half the actor he was always built up to be, nor does compare to the majority of the great high-paid actors, today. Having been "inlove" with him when I was younger, I have seen every single movie he's ever been in, star or feature. Fight Club remains one of my favorite movies in general, however Edward Norton actually made the movie for me. In terms of an incredibly impressive performance. Brad was raw sex appeal and portrayed a character that a lot of men idolized and wanted to be like.. Just like the real "Tyler Durden"...

    It's hard to peg whom exactly could have pulled that off as strong as Pitt did. if I had to pick a few;
    Tom Hardy (top pick)
    Ryan Reynolds
    Chris Hemsworth
Ryan Gosling (annoying, but he showed promise in "Place Beyond the Pines")
Possibly Paul Walker, but he was too humble and endearing, in my opinion.

Tyler Durden was a crazy mother fucker that's why Brad Pitt was a good choice. Ryan Gosling was good in 'Place Beyond the Pines' but his character was 2 dimensional, a dude with no brains doing bank jobs, Tyler Durden was an intelligent complex character.
