I have a form of bi-polar so for me to go without my medication is horrible for my friends and family. sure being manic is non-stop fun, but it's not to everyone else.

I have Bi Polar, Depression and severe OCD. I am 21, been on medication for 3 yrs...If you saw the person I was before I got on medication and the person I am now, it would blow your mind. Medication doesn't help everyone, but for me it definately improved my life by a lot.

I'm usually on 5 or 6 different kinds of medication, depending on what kinds I find on the floor or who's bottle I find laying around. I figure no one is going to take something bad for them, so if I take their medication it will probably cure what I don't know I have.

I dont take phamaceuticals, I research what herbs to take for any ailment I have. plus preventitive health foods and teas. (like green tea, almonds, dandelion tea, rose hip tea, spinach, etc) and I exercise and never consume processed foods. I dont need a doctor!

It pleases me very much to hear this. Pharmacuticles are far more limited in their healing capacity than nature itself.

Dandelion is one of my favorite herbs. It grows in such abundance and offers us much strength. It is hearty and tough. It's a shame so many people view it as a weed and something to eliminate.

I don't take them, but I've had 3 or 4 friends in the past on Prozac. Teenage years and depression seem to go hand in hand.

I have Borderline PD, Dysthymia, and social anxiety. If it wasn't for my medication, and my boyfriend and his mothers support, I would be on the street, dead, or doing meth.

The only people who say "No one needs to be on meds" are either in denial, or have never had any mental disorders.

I take 3 different psychiatric medications, one for anxiety, one for OCD/depression and an anti-psychotic. All three of these medications have improved my quality of life enormously and I would probably be in an institution or worse if I hadn't started taking them when I did.

I was given antidepressants at the age of 10 >.> someone please tell me how does a child of that age have to take pills to cure "depression"?
I wouldn't be so damn depressed if I was allowed to be myself and if my mom would stop cross dressing me and thinking that I made an adorable son.

I don't think ANYONE especially children need to be taking antidepressants at all. They caused me serious hypertension and a decreased capacity of intellect. I think it is a fallacy that people need antidepressants. We have evolved greatly without any medication warping our minds. We have lived thousands of years without them and we should continue that path. Most antidepressants and medications are synthesized in some laboratory and not even tested or approved. http://cchr.org for more information.

    • Without the intervention of my then psychiatrist and his prescribing me Fluoxetine, I would be dead by now and I'm not being overdramatic either.

Some people are strong enough to survive without anti-depressants but I wasn't and I'm glad to be here today. And just because they caused a certain effect on you, doesn't equate to them having the same effect on everyone else.

Without antidepressants I would never have done anything with my life and chances are very, very high that I wouldn't even be alive.

Same here. I love when people judge people who are afflicted with something they are not.

I couldn't even leave my house before I got on SSRIs.

I started taking anti-depression at the age of 15, and over the years my amount of pills has more than doubled. I also get a bit for sleeping on, and when I get a nervous breakdown I get some anti-psychotic. And I can tell you, that I have never been happier. I tried to kill my self twice, before they gave me pills, and a month after, I felt a bit of happiness for the first time in years.
Of course, I have been questioning if the drugs have changed who I am, but my parents tell me that I am more like I were before I got depressed. The pills didn't alter my mind or anything, they just put a lid on all my feelings. So yeah, you can question if children should /need/ medication at all, but you can't question my recovery. It's all real!
