Do you suffer from hypervigilance?

I mean, SERIOUS hypervigilance that never goes away.

It's a symptom of PTSD and severe anxiety disorder. It's quite different from paranoia. It's a condition that has you permanently on edge and alert to all senses, always looking for threats. You can't shut it off and it doesn't lessen even when you're in a "safe" environment (no place is safe to people who have this). You will overreact to every little noise, smell and movement. You'll scan everywhere you go for multiple escape routes, things to use as weapons or cover and note where the threats may come from.

It greatly affects your life. Lack of sleep, mental exhaustion. Relationships suffer in many ways due to hypervigilance.

I have this condition. Do you?

  • Yes, definitely, but a lot more so in the past than I do currently. It subsides greatly when I feel better/healthier in general. I still constantly scan for exits/escape routes all the time though. However, searching for potential weapons doesn't happen too often because I usually have something with me anyway which I could use; like a large jackknife or an airgun. As far as I'm aware, my 'hyper-vigilance' has never affected my relationships with people.
