Do you resent your vehicle?

It's a piece of crap, everyone knows it, (even YOU can't deny it forever) but it gets you where you need to go. It's horrible on gas mileage, and has numerous things wrong with it that you know will never get the proper care that it should. It certainly doesn't impress the ladies (or men...), and you might have to work on it now and then (or maybe more often than preferable), but it still gets the job done. I mean, some people don't even have vehicles, right?

Here is the question though: do you resent it?

I'm just grateful that I have a car.

I guess. Mine only does about 4mph. I can get it up to 12mph but it overheats and the intake manifolds start working like mad. Plus it doesn't seem to work on regular petrol. It prefers some kind of soup. And you don't even want to know what comes out of the exhaust. It's got to be breaking some kind of emissions ruling.

Although it's very adaptable. It can get up stairs and when it gets a prang, it kind of heals itself. Although it's a swine to get started on cold mornings.

i buy disposable cars (under $2k - generally last about a year).

until i can afford to get the nice old 1940's car i really want, i'm not wasting money on a brand new car (especially when most of my friends spend more on their maintenance in a year than i do on my entire car).

The only "vehicles" I've had were bikes. A few months ago, I salvaged through my basement and found my old bike. I figured that It would be a mature bike and easy to repaint, but it wasn't. It was a sparkly silver with purple and black all over it. On it's body the word "topaz" was spray painted purple in a hoe-ish fashion. It also had glittery streamers shooting out of the handles. It was like if a bike could be prostitute. It had extremely flat wheels and she was desperate. It had become clear to me that she had had better experiences in her heyday. I was filled with utter disgust when I saw her and memories of when I first received her came flooding over me.

I had gotten her when I was about 9 and I didn't like her then either. I had wanted a blue and black bicycle, but instead the gods cursed me with this monstrosity. Looks aside, size was a huge problem. She was too big and tall for me. I was a short thing and it was hard to sit on her because I had to kick my leg up high and it hurt. There were times where we nearly fell on the floor. Everyone gazed upon her with sheer jealousy and awe, while I had to stifle my true feelings and lie. We did have one fun ride, though. We went to the empty parking lot of a school. The school wasn't that far from where we lived, but it took forever because it was so hard to fit her into the trunk. I ended up riding in that lot for almost 3hours. I was having fun but it was so hard to control her and her seat was extremely hard and uncomfortable. We almost hit peoples cars and rode into the street. Oh my! I was so upset when we had to stop.

The memory ended and I still was looking at her. I tried her anyway to see if she was worth it. But her wheels were so flat and her seat was extremely hard that it hurt my genitalia. I quickly got off to avoid injury and I informed my mother that I didn't want her and I was going to get a replacement. She looked so forlorn, but I didn't care as I was still upset with her. She stayed downstairs for awhile until the men with their big truck came and took her away with the other things. I had donated her and I didn't want to look back, but now I can't help but to wonder how she felt. Did she feel betrayed even though our relationship was brief? Did she want one more chance at fixing our already crumbled affair? Did she want me to spend time with her and fix her up so she could show me what she was like in her heyday? Has she gone insane as a result? There are so many things to think about, but the longer my thoughts linger the more I feel guilty. Hopefully, she has found someone to properly appreciate her like I couldn't, which is why I gave her up....

Anyway, I've moved on and I'm now looking for a new bicycle:)

I have a really nice car now, but the last one I had was a total POS.

I've had so many cars.....soooooo many. Let's see if I can remember all of them....

80's Toyota Corolla, first car, let my bro borrow it and it died that day. I had it for a whole week or 2.

89 Ford Ranger, nothing wrong with it except a tiny bit of rust.

Sold the Ranger to buy an 85 Pontiac Fiero, AWESOME car!!! Nothing bad to say about it other than it hated cold and rain (it would easily get water in the electrical parts due to design, causing it to not start unless you went out there with a blow dryer or something and dried that shit out)

Wrecked that, bought a total POS Chevy Cavalier for $250, drove that for a while then sold it for more than I paid for it.

After that, I was borrowing my mom's car for a while. We also had a kinda communal family car that anyone could use, it was junk, every time I drove it something happened. The last time, the rust had eaten through the gas tank and it was pouring out while I was still trying to get somewhere. I had to dump like $10 in gas in it and pray it took me to where I could leave it. Luckily it did.

Then a 1969 GMC truck, that was my husband's.

Then a 2002 Dodge Neon. Wrecked.

Then a 1989 Ford Bronco, there's not enough room on the page to type about THAT one. Paid $500 for it and drove it all over the country until it rusted itself completely locked up (the wheels). It was so rusty, but ran like a champ. Sold the engine, tranny, seats and everything else off of it, ended up making way more than I paid for it and then someone begged me to let them have what was left of it so I got it hauled off for free. I guess they wanted the rear axle, whatever.

A 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora, I hated that car. It was nice, it looked nice, but it was junk. It had really low miles on it and everything broke on it at once, so I had a pretty, nice car that didn't run. Nice.

Somewhere in-between here, I had a 74 Ford pick-up and a 68 GMC pick-up, but they were projects. Also, a 77 Trans Am. The T/A was awesome, so awesome!!

A 1994 Lincoln Town Car, nice car, nothing wrong with it, had it for years.

98 Ford Taurus, it was an a to b car, had problems but it wasn't bad. Sold it for more than I paid for it.

A 94 Ford Taurus, fucking total piece of shit!!! So glad when someone actually bought that thing from me. Had it on craigslist for 1 day and it was gone....whew. That was the only car of mine I've ever been actually embarrassed and ashamed to be seen in or around.

Now I have a Lincoln LS, and I love it.

I probably forgot a car or 2 in there somewhere.

I love my car. I could buy a new one, but I am determined to outlast this one and drive it till it blows up!

I have a really nice BMW now, but when i first started driving my parents didnt want to buy me a nice car for my first car. and the car they gave me was kind of crumby looking in comparison with my moms, dads, and brothers car. at first i hated that 1998 Volvo and when i got my new car for my 18th birthday i was so glad to get rid of it. but now looking back i loved that car & the memories in it. The two years i drove that car for was the best part so far of my teenage years, and if i had to drive it again i would.

I don't hate my car. I love my car. Never had any real trouble with her. She has 109000 km on the clock and everything works like a treat. I always make sure my car looks and runs like a dream.
I always clean, wax and polish my car and never miss services. Services are done by the car maker's service.
It is more expensive this way, but I know for sure that my car will take care of me, just like I take care of her.

Anyway. Wise man once said: Take care of the car, car takes care of you.

I love my car, it's so beautiful and makes my friends jealous! :D It's also my first car and the front bumpers have chips from driving fast over pebbly areas and the back bumpers are scratched when I was learning to park on it :[ plus its NBP so you can see all the tiny scratches and imperfections but I adore it

People should be thankful that they at least have a car and don't have to walk or take the bus everywhere. Sometimes people forget just how lucky they really are.

I drive a 2004 Ford Taurus that I nicknamed White Angel. It's not new and the passenger side mirror is still taped on from when I was learning to park. It has a different problem with it yearly that I always wind up fixing just in time for inspection. I love my car scratches and all. I'd be sad if it never worked again.
