Do you really need to say "hello" more than 10 times a day?

I work with this woman who demonstrates all kinds of strange and annoying behavior.

She is actually one of my supervisors. She has to pass my desk each time she uses the restroom and each time she passes, she feels the need to say, "Hello."

I explained to her when we first started working together that if she passes by my desk and I'm totally engrossed in something that very rarely will I break my concentration to speak at that time and that she should not take it personally.

She does however take it personally and is practically 'stalkerish' with her "Hellos" all day long. She will hover over my desk and say, "Just saying Hello." Who does that? Everyone else I work with respects that when they see I'm busy, they they may say Hello, but they keep walking and don't expect me to answer at that moment, but not her. Is her behavior normal?

IF she has to say it 10 times a day to you, it might be OCD just like the others said. OR she is just trying to get your last nerve ha. You should just tell her straight up that it is bothering you.

She could just smile as she walks by. But it sounds like too many hellos!

You diagnose schizophrenia because she says "hello" a little too much? Somehow I don't think so...

    Maybe she's obsessed with you.

Hmm...maybe she's just checking on you because she's your supervisor. It could also be that she's got mild OCD, so she has to say hello to you a certain number of times a day. Or she likes you. Or that's how she just is.
I dunno. Maybe it's normal to her :/

She may like you and not know how to properly express it... Or, you hurt her pride and she wants to prove her hello's to you.

She's either trying to annoy you or like she really likes you. :P

Smile, look up from your work, and say "goodbye". Try this a few times. And chat and be civil at appropriate times so that she can hopefully get that sometimes are appropriate to chat and others aren't. This will help ease any power struggle or game playing involved.
