Do you really believe those women who...

...claim they didn't know they were pregnant untill they were in labor/giving birth?

I don't believe most of those stories. Some yes, but most, no. I think it's more denial and disbelief rather than not knowing. Not knowing you're pregnant is different than not acknowledging it.

I don't believe any of them. 60
I don't believe most of them. 47
Who knows? Sounds fishy though. 39
I take them at their word. 19

There was a bit on the news a few months back, about a (fat) little girl giving birth during a fieldtrip. I think her parents didn't know she was pregnant because a. she's really chubby and b. was twelve at the time.

I wouldn't have known what hit me. But then again, I didn't have sex when I was twelve.

  • I choose 3. There are a lot of fools who don't use protection and think they'll be fine.

Some of the women might be extremely over weight as well and not even know they are pregnant.

    "Who knows? Sounds fishy though."

Either that or they are very uneducated and don't know where babies come from.

Some are slower than others at figuring out what should be obvious. Some are just so overweight that the baby doesn't make a noticeable bump. But one way or another, it's impossible to go a full nine months with a baby inside of you without ever knowing it.

Woah, talk about not being in touch with your body. I mean a human being is in there. It moves.

It seems close to impossible to not know your pregnant! And to not be curious why you aren't having your menstrual cycle is ridiculous! I freak out when i am 2 days late! Yes they may be overweight and not notice their stomach growing, but there must be some other sign that could of helped any of those women put two and two together. If they are by any chance telling the truth that they DID NOT know they were pregnant whatsoever then it just proves that you don't need: pre-natal vitamins, healthy food etc...
all their babies turned out just fine, with no birth defects, or anything! Its a silly program!

When you get to the point when you are in labor and actually having the baby, I don't think it's possible to not know you were carrying a kid for the past 9 or so months.

This elicits a big grin from me because I do actually know one. Monday, she was feeling a bit ill. Tuesday, she was a mother. And she is one hell of a mother. Despite having the huge advantage of a whole 24 hours to prepare for her previously unknown child coming into her life, she and her boyfriend (now husband) are just brilliant in every regard. Strange things happen; humans adapt. I don't see her so much since I moved house but I was there as it unfolded and I'll never forget it.

    It really does happen.

How did she account for missing her period?

She was carrying quite a bit of extra weight and her periods were irregular at best. She did comment to me that they finally seemed to have stopped for good, but this wasn't curious enough for either of us to think she might be five month's pregnant.

but can't you tell when the skin is not simply fat. I swear baby bumps are usually harder or even morning sickness signs/baby kicking??

A baby kicking can be mistaken as gas. Also some women may never feel the baby kick even when they are kicking. I'm a thin woman and I didn't even remotely start to show until I was 8months (pregnancy is almost over with by then). So yes its very possible for someone that already has meat on their stomach to not show at all. Sometimes women really don't know that they are pregnant. It DOES happen people.

  • I don't doubt that it does happen, but I think more often than not it's denial. Denial is a very, very powerful thing!
