Do you put limitations or filter yourself in any way?

Whether it be in my social circle or online, if I'm spending a lot of time either with my friends or writing many comments on a site, I feel I have to back away from it for a bit, as a way of not overdoing myself and making people sick of me, losing self relevance. And just to refresh myself. Also in a way, to hope that people will miss me and welcome me back when they see me next, or put greater importance on their time with me or my comments online.

I can relate the same sort of thing to movies. Some actors take on way too many projects, such as Paul Rudd or Nicolas Cage. If they went away for a bit, maybe did a couple of plays so had a year or 2 year hiatus from film, when they next appeared audiences would liken to them instead of feeling like they're passe' and starring in everything. Sometimes you gotta make people miss you. Is this a normal way of acting/thinking/feeling?

What you're feeling is completly normal and also an indication that youre not addicted to constant social comfirmation.

Ever hear of striking while the iron is hot? Or making hay while the sun shines? I think, especially in the entertainment industry, that if you take a break when you are doing well, people quickly forget you and it's doubly hard to reenter the game. I've seen it dozens of times when actresses leave to have a kid or family, few ever make it back to the star status they had before.

    • Yeah but I don't think Nicolas Cage is doing well, I mean he's landing the roles but in movies with such horrendous screenplays they are financial disasters and are lambasted by critics

Funny. The thought that I might need to back off to hold credibility isn't one I think of often, if at all. Taking a hiatus is what I'm good at. Now, if I could mix in a little more consistency....
