Finger eleven - Paralyzer...... Well I’m not paralyzed But, I seem to be struck by you I want to make you move Because you’re standing still If your body matches What your eyes can do You’ll probably move right through Me on my way to you!!
Mute. There's a ton of ways to communicate that don't involve verbal speech.
Any of them except going blind. Going blind would be the worst thing for me because I depend on my sight for my four biggest passions (art, anime, cycling and sewing). I wouldn't know how to live without them.
These all suck but I think that Deaf. Mute leaves you open to being attacked and not being able to scream for help, being blind ruins how
Mute. I could just write on a notepad. I wouldn't be able to sing anymore though which would suck but at least I could see hear and move.
Deafness.. I could still do a lot of things when deaf. I'd be able to see my partners face and study. I look at some of the blind people here at my uni and while they no doubt are amazing people, they are limited to what they can do very much. Someday I always want to see my children's faces. There's so much to see in this world and it would be sad for me to never see none of it again :/
Blind. Being mute or paralyzed would do a lot more to impair my ability to express myself than being blind would, and being deaf would too because I wouldn't be able to have conversations in real time with someone who couldn't sign. Deafness would also take away music, which is something that means a lot to me.
Not that blindness would be easy. School would be extremely difficult, and I'd be made very dependent on others to even walk about town. But deafness would be just as debilitating, and paralysis even more so. But that only leaves my voice, and even though I'm quite a quiet person I value my voice too much.
But without your sight your perception of what it is to exist would be quite different. You would be deprived of large portion of what makes life so majestic.
I can't imagine what it would be like to wake up every morning and not see the LA skyline, to take the train to work and not observe the diverse existence of other people, to not be able to appreciate a longer drive on a scenic route, to not experience any visual aesthetic of any kind. Perhaps I'm being too anecdotal.
It's definitely true that I would miss a lot. There is plenty of visual beauty in my everyday life too; I love the rolling green hills around the house where I live with my parents, and I love the sights of the city where I live with my friends.
I chose blindness because I felt like I had eliminated everything else first. The rawness of spoken-word communication was too important to me to choose muteness or deafness, and full-body paralysis would take too much of my independence.
I am almost certainly undervaluing sight to some degree, which is probably a sign that I don't use it enough (funny as that may sound). Too much looking at screens and the insides of four walls, not enough looking at the real world and the people I love. Stuck Inside At Summer Syndrome.
Thank God I don't have to choose for real :P
