Do you percieve china as a threat?

Do you think that China politics, economics and behaviour pose a threat to the U.S.A., EU, or any other country?

  • I am half Chinese, and have lived here for many years. I do not however support most of their ways. Yes, they may be a "threat" but why take that attitude? They are also an excellent ally, and considering we owe them billions, I think the U.S. would be wise to keep it that way.

They have the power and we are not welcome in their country, as you said they can do anything with us but they can not do much now to us cos we are their customer,(I remark now). Chinese are more ambitious for money than anyone in this world and they will live all their life uncomfortable if it will bring good to the next generation.

Between the USA and the EU, we've invented concentration camps (the British), biological warfare (the British), seen a Fascist regime gas people in their millions (the Germans get this one), started conflicts with countries on the other side of the world because they have different views (the Americans this time for Korea and Vietnam), prolong WWII by ordering that the Japanese don't surrender until such time that atomic weaponry is ready for a "live" test (Americans again), invade countries solely for economic and political reasons (that was all of us, in Iraq and Afghanistan).

China's occupation of Tibet and their insistence that it is a "liberation" paints them no differently than the Western world. When I was born, it was predicted that in 2025, wars would rage between a unified Europe and the USA. Half right. Europe is begin to unify into one state. But it's pointless for us to fight the USA, just as it's pointless for the USA to fight China.

I guess China will gear up to be the world economic powerhouse but, because of the language barrier, it's less likely on a cultural level. If it does, I'm happy enough to learn Chinese in the same way I was happy to learn American slang and culture, and the same way Indians and Africans learned English.

History isn't just something that happened to other people in the past. It's happening to us too. All the time.

    • Concentration camps were invented by the Spanish in 1868 in Cuba. Biological warfare was first used by the Hittites around 1500 b.c. then again by the Gauls in the dark ages. Germans did kill millions, not all with gas. War on the Korean peninsula was started by the PRK, not the U.S. And the Vietnam War was started by the French and taken over by the U.S.

WWII was not prolonged by the U.S., it was shortened though use of the two atomic weapons (along with the declaration of war by the Soviet Union) by at least three years saving millions of lives, including that of my great uncle, an english officer captured in Singapore.

Afghanistan was invaded because of their residents involvement in a very noisy incident at the south end of Manhattan in 2001 (maybe you saw something about it on the news).

Iraq was invaded either because someone typed a "Q" instead of an "N", or more likely, Dick Chaney saw all that oil and, thinking of his friends at Halliburton, said "tasty!!!"

I would like to comment on the rest but can't because the charge light on my vibrator just changed to green so I must go.

I'd class the Black Hole of Calcutta as the very definition of a concentration camp. That was in 1756, way before the Spanish. There is that theory about the Hittites and the cursed rams but most experts can't substantiate it. I was thinking about the smallpox-infected blankets the British used against the American Indians in the 1760's (although I agree that no-one seems to know whether this attempt was successful, the attempt was still made). The second world war was prolonged by the US by dint of a Japanese general being prepared to surrender aboard a Russian warship in June 1945, two months prior to atomic weaponry being ready. That surrender would have given the Russians a tactical superiority in Japanese waters post-war and would have precluded a "live" test of the A bomb, both a sign to the world of US military dominance and a retaliation for the destruction at Pearl Harbor. Korea and Vietnam are both seen as American conflicts despite not being started by the US, in the same way that World War One isn't largely seen as a battle between Austria, Hungary and Serbia. As for Afghanistan, if a small group of terrorists attack your country, you generally prosecute the terrorists, rather than the twenty-eight million innocent men, women and children unlucky enough to be born in the same country as said terrorists. And Iraq, even the official reasons are shameful - that we countries who have weapons of mass destruction think a country should be punished for developing weapons of mass destruction. Hypocrisy?

        Oh, and lol. :)

I just remember what was printed a few years ago in the news...

China suggested to the US that we kept our forces east of Hawaii and that they'd "take care of" everything to the west.

Needless to say their idea was turned down.

Agree. They their economy is booming so fast, the divide between rich and poor is so large which is causing some internal stress (Cairo). Their strive to be more westernized is causing them to purchase more popular goods (not to mention eat more beef - which... shortage hello). I predict that their dollar will raise and western society will no longer be able to afford to purchase or produce goods in China..... following this will be the devistation of Chinas economy. Chinas factories will close as more workers will demand more money to live in a more western like manner and prices will go up on those goods we all take advantage of... Apple for example - want an ipod - 400$.
Western Society will purchase less (about time) and depend more on their own society. Global free trade only benefits fat cats and people who want to consume consume consume consume and have no regard for the implications.

It's true, in China an iPod would cost 4000yuan which would be a medium-high salary, equivalent to about 400 pounds, IDK about USD.
The divide between the rich and poor is very large, I agree.

I would consider that... You would proabably need to learn the basics of Chinese
::: Where would you want to live? Hong Kong- overpopulated and poluted::: Kunming- not so big but quite a lot of CO2, but cheap stuff-good weather too::: DeHong: nice, nice big big park but has lots of druggies::: Haerbin- very cold, hail etc. ::: BeiJing- overpopulated and boiling.
The rights there probably won't be very good... You'll have to adapt to the toilets...

Yeah Nukes in the hands of idiots is not the best thing.

By idiots I mean every country that has them...esp the only country that has ever used them. The US trying to keep everyone else from having nukes is kinda like Charles Manson trying to keep people from selling knives to mad men.

What part of China do you see as a threat?
My granddad who is very old (84) and lively... and has little intentions of going abroad.
    - Students, yes them, they come abroad to play and tour the West while so called 'studying' (AKA wasting more than 20,000 Yuan a year)
    - The CCP: chinese communist party. It's them.
    -Those Cantonese business men?
    - The nippy parents who make you join clubs and smack you.

Yes, CHINA IS A THREAT. But not everyone.
