Do you pay attention?

When you're up and moving around during your day/night do you pay attention to what's going on around you? Are you stuck on your phone or stuck reading a book? What takes up most of your attention during the day?

Work, mainly. I have to be switched on or people could die.

That's a true story by the way. No BS.

    • I appreciate the No BS part. How would people die?

My job is repairing equipment that can save people's lives in the case of an emergency. If that equipment fails, then people might not get out in time.

        • Interesting, and since a job such as yours is important to detail distractions are the last thing you need.

Yes and no. I'm in my own little world most of the time no matter what I'm doing. Like when I'm driving I either zone out and don't know where I am for a minute or i'll just totally forget where I was going. I tend to pick up on peoples habits or daily routines and i notice small details or changes about things but I couldn't tell you what you look like or your name even if we just had a little chat face to face...but I'll remember your shoes or the fact that you have a kitten named Banjo or some other random info that was mentioned.

I imagine that a kitten named 'Banjo' would be a very jittery kitten. :)

I dont pay attention. At work I'm lost in my thoughts on what I call "cruise control." I only ever pay attention when speaking to others, watching film, and class. I have to actively force myself to focus, it is exhausting.

I pay attention at all times. If you learn to use your sense of hearing to it's full potential you instantly improve the scope of your attention at least 10x.

    • Would using your sense of hearing to its full potential cause you to be a light sleeper then?

Yes, actually. I'm an extremely light sleeper, but quickly learned to decipher the source of the sound and then go right back to sleep. If you're in tune enough with your hearing, you can even hear someone sneaking up on you by the way their moving body effects the acoustics.

        • I ask because I'm not a light sleeper and it can be a problem at times. So in essence it's really useful and advantageous to you. Awesome!

I have a terrible attention span. I'm often in my own world. I had a hyperactive imagination as a kid and it never diminished as I became an adult. Theres a plus side to it though, it fuels a lot of my artwork.

  • I am completely oblivious to my surroundings and I think it's a serious problem, I am the anti Sherlock Holmes. I see what I want to see/am lost in thought and don't pay attention to what's really going on.

    • I am like that too, unless I am driving around a place I've never been then I pay attention so in case I get lost I know where I'd already driven past. But that's as good as it gets.
