Heh, if I wasn't living in an unbiased country, I would get bullied *so* much for my surname. It sounds a bit sexually degrading. lol.

I like it because with my first middle and last name initails combined it spells JET. But I guess I'll change it when I marry.

I looooove mine, it's short, cute and a bit funny! I like it better than my maiden name. Actually when I first met my husband, all I could think about was marrying him and taking that name!!

  • I like my surname and I kept it even when I got married. I am my husband's companion, not his property.

I don't mind it. It's my forename which was the problem so I changed it.

I don't mind my surname, though it does often get spelt wrong (Examples of mistakes include Selwin, Swylln, Selwn, Selwy and Gelwyn). Have a guess what my correct one is?

My dad's parents/grandparents originally had the surname Solomon.... but you know how a certain Mr. Hitler felt about Jewish names, right?

Hint: It means 'friend in the house/castle' in Old/Middle English/Welsh.

I like mine. It's only one syllable so goes with any first name well. And my brother has a double initial.

It is my heritage and I love it. The name is a phrase meaning "Of the Wilderness" in English and dates back to to the 1500's in the country of origin and 1735 in what would become the United States.

I never knew my paternal grandfather. He died when my father was a young boy. I think his sudden death awoke something in my paternal grandmother because she was very interested in genealogy and did a lot of research into the family name. Sadly, she wasn't able to find the history of how the name came to be. My brother and I found a person at the Texas Renaissance Festival who could find family names, histories and coats of arms and we paid him to research it. It was almost as if we found the last missing piece my grandmother could not find before she died. We were taught from a very young age about the men and women in the family who did this, that and the other. My paternal grandmother found out 3 months after my birth that the first person in our family to set foot in the colonies that would be the United States had a very similar first name to mine. It was only a minor spelling difference. My parents decided not to change my name though.
Another part of my family, my paternal grandmother's parents, have their genealogy traced back to the Vikings.

I don't :( My grandpa changed his lazt name when my dad was born so now I'm a boring old Conway, instead of having a last name like Kozakevitch :P
Although it's pretty cool to think that if my name began with A my initials would be ACDC haha!

  • Mine is Kohut, and it's spelt and pronounced exaclty as it looks. Yet I always have to spell it out when people ask for my name (no matter how careful I try to say it). Or when they read it, they over think it, and aren't sure to pronounce it. I don't feel that strongly about it, it's just an inconvience. I don't even feel attached to my name (if that makes any sense)

Eh, my maiden name and married name are both common. I don't have much attachment to either. It meant more to my husband then it did to me so I changed it. It does keep things simple.

Its cool. Its a very famous last name and people joke about it all the time. Plus my maiden name rhymes with my first name. Growing up was hell. :P

My surname pretty much rhymes with my forename. Not enough for kids to tease, but just enough to make my name sound like a poem. I feel your pain, though!
