Do you like cooking with a barbecue?

I personally don't like them. The food cooked on one is usually drier, and the added smoky flavor is off putting to me.

Comment why you like or dislike it if you want.

Explanation: You do not know how to use a charcoal grill. Your food is dry because you either cook it too long or too hot. That smokiness on a burger, ribs, steak, sausage, fruits, veggies . . . on everything is amazing.

          Word. That is good stuff.

    • Yeah too smokey for me. Maybe an expensive grill would cook things nicer though. Thank you for commenting.

A higher priced grill won't necessarily cook your food any better, you still have to know what your doing. I am with Armus, I love smokey grill flavor. But if you don't, use a propane grill. I don't use propane myself because I want the smoke flavor. But like Hank Hill says if you wanna tast the meat, not the heat, propane is the way to go.

You wouldn't have that problem if you were using clean burning propane and propane accessories.

I on the other hand love me some BBQ and love me some smoke ! I find any excuse to have a BBQ and cook pretty much all my meals out there in the summer .

If your meat is dry your cooking methods are probably flawed . If you want to try and prevent this , cook at the correct temperatures for the right amount of time , no over cooking ...a thermometer will help with this since you can monitor the internal temp and take it out right when its done . You can also brine the food before hand in a water and sugar solution ( in cold water ) to help keep it juicy . If you don't like the smoke flavour which I don't see why you don't but you can use a propane grill or foil the food .

Grilled teriyaki chicken! And shrimp, burgers, ribs, and steak. So happy it's basically summer!

You could wrap the food in aluminum foil with a marinade to keep it nice and juicy and block off some of the smoke... That somewhat defeats the purpose of grilling, but it turns out good.

Some foods lend themselves to grilling. And many times that nasty flavor is caused by a bad cook, as with any food. God I hate it when people use too much lighter fluid when grilling. But charcoal and propane grills cook very differently. And cooking over a campfire is yet another.

But you are allowed a prefence. I just wonder if you have experienced quality grilling.

    • I've had quality grilled things before, it's mostly the smoke flavor and the charring of the food that puts me off. I think it's a lot like how some people don't like mushrooms or blue cheese. Those are my favorites though.

      Thank you everyone for commenting.

Oh, I guess my point was that not all smoke leaves the same flavor.

        • That's true. I have tried many varieties and it is not my thing.

I love charcoal grilled food. I would love to be proficient cooking on a charcoal grill, but for 19 years my cockpit (where the charcoal grill would go) had 370 gallons of gasoline under it. That big bang would not be my idea of a really good time!
It's also pretty hard to maintain an even heat on a charcoal grill that's hanging off the back of a boat, in the wind.
