Do you see the police force in general as doing their bit to adhere to the law and therefore preserving civil obedience and order? Do you have faith that they are not corrupted from within? How do you view the police? I suppose this question would vary from country to country but perhaps in the comments if you could tell us where you're from and the respect you hold towards law enforcement there.

I chose other because it's a yes and a no for me. Humans are never perfect but it really depends where you are.
I've been to places where the cops have been very helpful (e.g. going out of their way to help you if you've lost your way, spending a good bit of time giving advice on where's safe and where's not) and are just generally nice, supportive people. Stuff like this was especially helpful for me as a, sometimes, ditzy new arrival. Mind, these places were all pretty small and close-knit anyway. I guess there's less anonmyity with an everyone-knows-everyone sort of thing going on.
On the other hand... In most big cities I find the police force is just as corrupt as the gangs they're hounding. You hear of severe beatings which led to death given to people who were confused because of a mental illness or other problem. It's terrible.
In South Africa it`s real easy to spot the real criminals. 99% of them wear blue uniforms !!
Here they are so corrupt,t`s almost unbelievable.
In MANY instances the police officers are involved in highjackings,theft extortion to name but a few.
We had TWO former Chiefs of Police who were sacked due to corruption.
Here we don`t fear the law, we fear the people who "upholds" the law.
Of course, just as much faith as I have in the human race.
Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely. What else is there to say?
As Dave Chappelle said "I don't hate the police, I'm just scared of them."
Honestly I have faith that the police here in my Southern California town do a good job. But I feel like the cops in general can be easily corrupted. I guess I do have sort of faith that they do a good job in some places, while a horrible job in others.
Yeah after watching that Kelly Thomas video I feel totally safe around cops.
Ha! I was going to make pretty much the same story. I'm really interested in the answers. Can we get your take on that too? :)
