Do you have aspergers?

This is not intended as a way to make fun of people with aspergers. I was just curious to see how many of you actually have it as I've seen many people make comments about their experience with it.

I myself don't have it, even took a test once out of curiosity and definitely got a result of no way. I recognize sarcasm, I use it myself, I don't have a fascination with anything unusual like cats or vacuums (those tend to be the most common believe it or not) other than music, I am fine in social situations and I recognize when others have aspergers or any form of disability within 5 seconds of meeting them, etc.

I've been friends with a few who have it and although there is definitely a barrier between us in several circumstances, I still think they're cool peeps.

Yes, I was diagnosed 16
Nope, definitely don't 32
I don't know for sure, maybe? 18
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • I've been diagnosed with aspergers or some other autistic disorder by practically every psycho doc I've seen.

I actually have very good social skills for an aspie but my comprehension of emotions and other intangible concepts seems as bad as someone with severe autism. Everyone with autism spectrum disorders has different symptoms and it's a pretty vague diagnosis.

In some ways it benefits me because I don't have to deal with some of the emotional burdens many people seem to have but I have my own issues as well that other people do not relate to for example I will flip out if somebody moves my stuff without me knowing.

It does seem there are many other people with autistic disorders here since this site attracts people who are different.

By the way I fucking hate vacuums and they often make me flip out if someone turns one on without me knowing.

I love music and cats though.

Let me check in the fridge.....
Nope. But I'm on my way to the market, if you'd like me to pick some up for dinner. Did you want the green or white asparagus? Just text me.

  • I know that a lot of people like to self diagnose themselves with aspergers...almost like it is a cool thing to do. I do not have aspergers but I have known a few who did. Once you get used to the differences it becomes less noticeable when hanging around someone who is autistic.

Not understanding what people mean and seeing nothing in a persons face is both confusing and scary. It's led to many misunderstandings and lost friends. Whether I have Aspergers or not is irrelevant, I have issues communicating and that causes problems. Ppl who say they deff have it without diagnosis do my head in. Like ppl who have 'allergies'.

I'm waiting to be seen by psychiatry (waiting lists are years in the UK). I show all symptoms of Asp but not a big issue in my life. I have a job, a bf etc. Just don't understand 99% of the population lol.

If "don't understand 99% of the population" is the criteria for any disease, then 99% of the population has it. Way to go with the self diagnosis, swifty.
Sometimes... aw hell what's the fucking point?

My mom took me to doctors, but I'm pretty sure I'm normal. She was also very new to parenting too. I was the first.

Pretty sure social phobia/anxiety doesn't = aspergers, so no.

My brother was diagnosed with a mild form of autism as a child, and my family is certain that my father may suffer from certain psychiatric illnesses or disorders. I've been told since as long as I can remember that I am strange and odd and I've never fit in. I don't understand social cues, and I'm generally very awkward. I believe I may have aspergers, but I am both afraid of a diagnosis, and I don't want to waste money or resources to get tested.

Not sure. I don't really have autistic symptoms or asperger symptoms. I get body language and can understand people's motivations and intentions and have no significant sensory issues. However, what makes me think I might have it is that I often find myself on the periphery socially. I have friends, but have been somewhat socially unsuccessful and at times have been viewed as somewhat unpopular and a bit of an outcast at times even. I saw a psychologist once who considered it but I stopped seeing him before it was confirmed or ruled out. I have had no formal testing for it, but when I take online tests for it, I generally score well into the neurotypical range. So, all in all, not sure if I have it, but something tells me I might

Unfortunately I have no such excuse for my social retardation :|

Oh I saw A Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time at The West End in London. Amazing stage adaptation, and really good as an introduction to Aspergers for people who don't know about it.
