Do you have any crazy obsessions? iin?

After watching a show on TLC about people and their crazy obsessions, it made me wonder how wacky people can actually get. So I thought I'd ask, do you have any crazy obsessions? If so, please comment at the bottom what it is.

I have a crazy obsession. I don't think I could get on the TV show for it, because it has less to do with acquiring physical items then just being really passionate/emotionally involved with it.

My obsession is the movies that director Tim Burton and actor Johnny Depp have collaborated on, which include Edward Scissorhands (1990), Ed Wood (1994), Sleepy Hollow (1999), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Corpse Bride (2005), Sweeney Todd (2007), Alice in Wonderland (2010) and the upcoming Dark Shadows (which hits US & UK theaters exactly 2 weeks from today). To be honest, I don't care much for Ed Wood or Corpse Bride, but I am completely obsessed with the 6 other movies that Depp and Burton have done together. Yes, that includes Dark Shadows, which isn't even out yet! I highly doubt I will be disappointed by it, seems how I have loved 2/3s of everything they've done together at this point.

You may be wondering if I like works that Depp and Burton have done independently of one another, such as Nightmare Before Christmas (Burton, even though he didn't actually direct it) or Pirates of the Caribbean (Depp). The answer is no. While I have tried to get into films that the two of them have done separately, it just doesn't work for me. Depp's characters without Burton's direction fail to reach me on an emotional level, while Burton's films without Depp's involvement always feel like there's something missing - something more to be desired.

But when the two of them work together, it's pure magic. Their movies are like a drug to me - from the first time Depp's character appears onscreen to the time the credits roll, I'm on an emotional high.

There are critics out there who at this point are tired of seeing Depp and Burton work together so often, and are tired of the fact that Depp always plays the "freakish, eccentric loner" in Burton's movies. They also say that Depp and Burton are only pandering to the teenage goth/emo crowd. Well you know what? I love Depp's cartoon-like "eccentric loners" because they each resonate with me in their own ways. And I'm living proof that Burton and Depp's work isn't just for goths and emos - I sport a head of blonde hair and clothing of bright colors, and I also enjoy Hello Kitty and My Little Pony.

How do I indulge in my crazy obsession? Well, I don't buy many material items to express my love (outside of the DVDs, because that goes without saying), because even though there are dolls/figures for just about every one of my favorite Depp/Burton characters, they are way out of my price range (even though I am just dying to have them on the inside).

Instead, I mostly indulge my obsession by having my favorite characters as imaginary friends, who I talk to whenever I'm alone (typically at night). I don't care that I'm too old for imaginary friends - I've had imaginary friends for almost my entire life and having Depp/Burton characters as imaginary friends is just the latest manifestation of that. I mostly listen to music that reminds me of my feelings for them, draw pictures of them and discuss them with other people. I admittedly don't watch the movies themselves as often as one would assume, but only because I have a rigid routine that leaves little time for movie-watching.

As for how other people react to my obsession, I have only had positive experiences. Other people are impressed by my vast knowledge of my favorite Burton/Depp movies, as well as my devotion to them. Several people have told me that whenever they see or hear anything relating to Tim Burton and/or Johnny Depp, they are instantly reminded of me.

Well, I had better wrap this up quickly, because this has turned into an essay instead of just a comment. I think I've sufficiently proved that I am both "crazy" and "obsessed". ;)

"I do, but I'm not telling."

Not because I don't want to, but because I don't feel like the effort of typing it out.

I like vampires and I love monsters. I have an obsession with anything dark and creepy. I also have a huge vampire fetish. I also have a Goth fetish. Just the thought of it is such a turn on. I also am into S&M and believe in the pet/master relationship.

    Hiya,

As for how I indulge in my obsession, the people I admire basically get deified, until I’m bored with them or they release rubbish –- which they just don't tend to do because they're that good.

They also get immortalised in short fantasy stories – the wizards-and-witches type, NOT what you're thinking!! -- or I make a calendar of them. I've written a song about one too. One's been made into a comic book character with healing powers (not by me) and I’d love to meet the man that did it and buy him a pint.

Luckily said people are only well-known in certain circles so it doesn't matter so much.

I'm not as obsessed as one would think though.

I'm obsessed with sociology, psychology and history. For some reason, I find them both very fascinating, and I absorb things I learn about the three like a sponge.

    Hiya,

Music. Mostly older stuff, blues/folk with a bit of heavy metal thrown into the mix – or could be the other way round. I go to concerts as & when I can, but my disability limits how often I go, depending on whether I can be taken there, where they are, and whether there's a wheelchair space. I'll hopefully go to some this year.

I love fantasy novels so much I write my own short stories, which are quite fairy tale-ish and full of the old- fashioned way of talking (I was brought up on un-sanitised Grimms'), and do fantasy pictures.

I've had people ask me if I remember the '70s. I've had people tell me my music is depressing (and I suppose it is if you're not used to it), but the worst comment was that I had no interests –- that's just because a lot of my interests are things that I don't need physical help to do, and usually these comments come from people who are a bit messed-up and/or don't have any interests themselves.

To Squirrelgirl: we'd get on, I look a bit Tim Burton-ish, with black hair and blue/purple nails with weird signs on!
How rigid is your routine and what happens when you can't keep to it ??

    So did mine!!
