Do you hate the typical anime art style?

I like it. Actually, I like it a lot. It's not my culture but I like when I like something that is someone else's culture. It gives us a starting point for a conversation.

What's the alternative? I don't understand your culture so I'm going to bomb it into the Stone Age so I don't have to deal with it any more?

Anime is a really broad category, so broad I wouldn't even know what to consider typical.
Part of me suspects that those who ohmaigodabsolutelyhate it are those that generally see the really cheap ones from children's cartoons and such while those who ohgodit'sthebestthingevur either see a lot of the better quality stuff or just really really like crappy stuff 'cause that's just how they roll.
Whatever. As long as someone likes it, it's all good.

Yeah I hate the typical style. It's really just cheap and lazy artists. There's some better anime out there though.

But hey there are cheap and lazy cartoons in the US too.

I love anime movies, mainly works by Hayao Mizaki(probably spelt that outrageously wrong but anyway) the art style is different and personally I like it

Some anime styles irk me...Mostly your generic shojo styles...ugh....
I just hate how much empty space there is on their faces...huge gigantic eyes, then tiny nose and even tinier mouth...and miles of nothingness...WHY MAKE THEIR HEADS SO BIG IF YOU AREN'T GOING TO USE ANY OF THAT EXTRA SPACE?!?

And this coming from somone who would be considered an anime artist...

But most anime have nice looking styles...

I hate the typical anime style thats all about fighting with no back story or the characters aren't explained properly. I don't watch alot of anime but I have watched the anime Death Note over five times and plan on watching another anime called "monster" which isn'y the basic anime styled show.

Yes it is so annoying.

I like Anime because the art is a lot more sophisticated, and the detail is amazing.

I think a lot of western cartoons require little to no skill to create. A lot are pretty average drawings and have stupid storyines tbh.

There all pretty much the same look, and same small imaginative story being told over and over and over again!

I used to hate anime drawing but when i watched it i think you will enjoy it :) and it's depend on the artist

The only 2 things I am able to draw perfectly are Manga and Realistic Animals... I follow Christopher Hart...

There are many styles to anime, in fact not one artist is that much alike. Some are simular. But each series has its own unquie style unless done by the same artiest. Like sandland and dragonball have the same art style because both are done by akira toriyama

I love drawing anime but not the typical one... i really dislike the shojo style with the enormous eyes and the same face /attitude all the time. The typical 12 years old school girl with giant boobs is annoying too. But i love manga :) just not those ones.
You can't really say manga is an insult to cartoon since some of them are really beautiful. Don't take pokemon and Sailor moon as an example tho lol.

I love Anime! But the chibi stuff annoys me to no end. I suggest looking up Code Geass for semi realistic style.

I love the 90's anime style. It was extremely realistic and damn cool. Nowadays most anime series look a lot more cartoonish and most are just stupid cheesy shows now.

If we're just talking the art style, the "typical" anime art style you see almost anywhere sucks. And it sucks hard. However, since there are many styles of anime art, there are some that are really nice.
As general, it's a good idea to explore other art styles. I don't think it's ever okay to stick to just one thing, like just anime, or just comic book style. If it's your "thing" that you're known for then yeah, you're fine, but EVERY artist should explore other possibilities out there. The hordes of people that just draw stereotypical anime really piss me off.

Unfortunately most popularised anime lacks originality in art style and plot, but really dig deeper and there is a mine of excellent and unique anime art styles, unfortunately however they're usually confined to Japan. One such artist I would suggest checking out would be Koji Morimoto, wonderful artistic style.

I'd much rather the comics which look as real as possible. I remember the Final Fantasy movie that came out which was really well made; had to do with Gaya and stuff, can't remember the name.

I really wish they made more of those real looking comics.

I fucking hate overly cute and feminine anime.
I like cartoons better.
