Are you elderly? Are you a strip club patron? Are you wealthy? Are you in a position of authority or power? Do you make big decisions that affect someone else? Are you anyone's boss?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, most likely you're getting courtesy laughs.

I give courtesy chuckles sometimes. I find that it greases the wheels of communication. When I get courtesy laughter from salespeople I find it extremely creepy, but when I get it from someone else I find it quite flattering.

I always do and I guess I probably do it too much. Some times I do it in a movie when they said something that was meant to be funny but wasn't even though I know no one can hear me anyway.

Depends on who I'm dealing with, obviously. I meant giving it, considering I pretty much never get it anyways.

I only give courtesy laughter at work, when dealing with customers lol. I just try to be polite in that environment
