Do you get sleep paralysis too?

If you're not sure what I mean by this, it's when you're mentally awake and aware of your surroundings but your brain is still blocking your motor functions so you can't move. Sometimes it can be accompanied by hallucinations and feelings of panic and fear. I get this quite a lot and it's the worst feeling in the world. How many of you guys have it too? Your thoughts.

Have you ever heard of The Old Hag, a witch that sits on your back at night. It happened to me the other night, when laying in bed, i got this cold breeze that ran across me. I couldn't move, nor turn my head to see what it was, complete paralazed. I started to hear foot step coming towards me, and all of a sudden, I felt pressure on my back, I was laying on my stomach. Whatever the hell it was scared me so bad that I didn't go back to sleep that night. I woke up screaming like hell, scared, in panic, and had no clue what the hell just happened. Hope to God, I never go through that again.

Yeah that has happened to me before, I was laying on my stomach, and I was completely covered by sheets but had one hand out and I felt something cold touch it. and then I heard footsteps coming towards me, then extreme pressure on my back, I was terrified, and I'd read about it before and I knew what I was...

Yea, I get this all the time. The first time I got it, it was accompanied by hallucinations and it was probably the scariest experience of my life, but after reading up about it I've come to not mind getting sleep paralysis..as strange as it sounds at least its more eventful than a normal nights sleep and I know it may sound hard but the next time you get SP just think positively and be happy and you won't get any more hallucinations or night terrors..don't try to struggle too much or you might start to panic..all I can say is enjoy the trip

  • I have this as well. Yes, it is common for people who get this a lot to hallucinate. I do as I'm falling asleep a lot and have had this even before taking drugs of any kind. When I was little I used to see these strange images on the walls and hear things. I get sleep paralysis and hallucinate probably every other night and have for a long time. Try not to panic during it, because that only makes it WAY worse and can interfere with the quality of your sleep. It isn't necessarily a serious problem if your getting this but when you freak out it can get to be a problem. There's no reason to be scared because experiencing this doesn't mean anything is wrong and there is certainly nothing in the room or around you that could harm you. Also, don't get into supernatural explanations for it because that could cause you do get kind of nuts

Can I join the sleep paralysis club?
Started getting when I was 15, I thought i was going crazy from smoking too much weed.

Has anyone had someone walk into your room and punch you in the face and then you wake up and their not there.

I hate when that happens! And apparently it's more likely to happen if you sleep on your back so I try to avoid that. But another weird thing is if I wake up sleep paralyzed and then go back to sleep it'll happen again!

What I was trying to conclude with was, I told it to leave me alone, and began to pray, and it went away.

It use to happen to me all the time, it seems to happen more often when your really afraid of something. The last time it happened, it felt like I was being held down by something evil, so I challenged the seemingly evil, and to would go away, and turn me loose.

This is perfectly normal. (And it has absolutely nothing to do with how old you are)

What is happening to you is this: When we sleep and are in a dream state, our brains 'shut off' our bodys' ability to move around, so that we do not walk around acting out our dreams.

But sometimes, we raise to a level of consciousness where we are not fully asleep OR awake, and this mechanism in our brain stays on.

That is what is happening to you, and yes it is very very frightening.

I'm 27 and it happened again this morning. It's hard to explain but I can see entities/shadows out of the corners of my eyes. Always more than one and I get the feeling they are mischievous spirit type beings holding me down on my bed. It also seemed like they originated in my dream and came through into the real world. I also got a tingly sensation at the top oof my head as if some kind of energy was there. Sounds weird I know.

It happens to me occasionally but I've never hallucinated. For me I just wake up but I can't move for a while.

Yup, it's definitely normal. Me and one of my friends have this sometimes. I've experienced it a few times, but the first couple of times were absolutely terrifying-- I thought I was dying and being abducted by aliens and seeing my dead fathers ghost. I found out in my psychology class that this happens sometimes when your body goes through REM sleep, in which your muscles are immobilized and your dreams are easily remembered. Occasionally though, most likely due to stress, you'll wake up, and because your brain still thinks your sleeping, you can't move and you'll see scary images because your still dreaming.
Trust me, the first few times this happened I was scared to death, but then when it happened again I knew what was happening and I relaxed instead of freaked out. The next time it happens just relax and you'll fall straight back to sleep :)
It also helps to sleep with like a pet, just as a comfort thing, so that if it does happen you can see them and feel safe.

I'm assuming that you don't know what you're talking about. I get them still. All the time. Especially when I'm very stressed. I'm 18 years old. My dad, who is 57, gets them all the time too. Clearly you just felt like being an ass and posting on everything even if you had no understanding of the subject matter.
