I'm a dental hygienist. I see patients spend thousands of dollars on restorative treatments that could have been easily avoided if they brushed and flossed regularly. Obviously, some patients have genetic and systemic issues that contribute to their poor oral health, but about 90% of patients that need restorative work are the ones that neglect oral home care and don't show up for their 6 month regular(prophy) cleanings.

    It's all about prevention.

  • It's supose to make you live longer. I only do it before dentist appointments so they won't yell at me as much...

Dental professionals can tell you don't floss when your gingival tissue is inflamed, especially the papilla between your teeth, which will not heal within a day. And they can also tell by the tartar build up, which is more prominent in proximal areas of your teeth and cannot be brushed off.

Also, they really shouldn't be yelling at you...

About once a week. I should do it more often because I've inherited my mum's weak teeth, but when I do it I do it really thoroughly, takes me a while so most of the time I'm too lazy.

the floss always pisses me off because I never know how long to make it, and then once i start flossing it starts to break apart in between my teeth. But i try to floss often
