Do you find people who claim to be non-conformists hypocrites?

This is a very vague and stereotypical example but I find Goth people to be hypocrites because they spend all their time complaining about how people are conforming and being slaves to the corporate machines and how they are rejecting society and refusing to follow its trends, yet they themselves are conforming to being Goth. They conform themselves to dress the same, sound the same, look the same and to listen to the same music as each other. I personally find this incredibly transparent and hypocritical. Any thoughts?

    There are too many people in this world, thus it is hard to become different. However,you can meet others who are different in the sense that they aren't like most people when it comes to beliefs. If you have one view on a subject there will probably be somebody else who believes the same. I think that Goths, at least the ones in your example, aren't hypocrites because they aren't part of the majority of people. A non-conformist is someone who doesn't conform to be part of a majority. I don't think a group of non-conformist are hypocrites, at least not for calling themselves non-conformist, because compared to the rest, they are usually a minority.

    I'm an elder goth and goth has several sub genres, I don't confirm to any of them. Interesting that you've singles out Goths for special mention.

    i never really understood either side here, one one hand, doing what everyone does just because thats what youre expected to do is wasting yourself on others, on the other hand, rebelling and not doing something just because others expect you to do it, is the same as buying a bus ticket and then walk by foot.
    just do whatever feels right and what you like to do, and if others do it too, thats fine, and if they dont and expect you not to do it either, fuck them.
