Do you find narcissists to be close-minded thinkers?

I see Narcissists as people who focus too much on themselves. They are shutting other people out and not seeing the bigger picture. It leads to being narrow-minded and being so focused on one's self is just hindering a person's social/emotional/mental development.

I find them to be close-minded too. 40
I don't find them to be close-minded. 8
I'm Narcissist, and I don't believe it's close-minded. 12
I'm Narcissist, and I accept that it's close-minded but don't care. 6

I agree with PumpkinKate. Sometimes you're the eagle; other times you're the turtle. Too much of either, though, I don't think is good.

I have a lot of narcissistic tendencies, but I also have a great deal of humility. I think most people display both...

I mean, I think I'm attractive physically, am relatively intelligent, and strive to do the "right thing" and I'm proud of that. But I don't necessarily think it makes me "better" than people different from me. Diversity is awesome. I think I love the fact we're all different just as much as I love myself for being who I am.

    I agree.
One of my closest friends is (she admits) a narcissist.

Narcissist (true narcissists) are not stupid, but they are so completely absorbed with themselves that they become blind to reality, more so than the rest of us. They are also highly jealous of other receiving credit and attention because they feel that they are the only ones that are ever worthy of praise.

Narcissists can be stupid, what does intelligence have to do with it?

    Put the question In reverse.
Everyone is a narcissist on some level, We can't be selfless, we'd perish.

I've only had to consider this recently after reading so much about it on this site.

Anyhow, it explains a great deal about a friend of mine. Admittedly she's not very intelligent, but I could be chatting to her about something but if she looks blank and I ask her what she's thinking about, she will laugh and say plucking her eyebrows or flossing her teeth etc.

WTF? Something completely off topic and obviously about herself! So yes, I have to say close-minded coz every thing has to be about her. However, she is very shy coz she thinks every one is bound to be looking at her all the time :o) Makes me laugh!

I'm narcissistic but I'm amazing so you can't really blame me.

All a narcissist is is a person who is constantly self-obsessed. That may make them close-minded in some respects, but not in others. For example, a narcissist could be open to other belief systems than their own; therefore not close-minded yet still self-obsessed. All narcism necessitates is self-obsession, every other trait is as fluid as it is in any other person.

It depends on the narcissist. Actually, I don't think narcissism has anything to do with how close-minded you are.

  • I've been called narcissistic quite alot in life. I mostly focus on myself and other things that benefit myself. That doesn't mean I'm narcissistic, I'm most likely not. My mental state is fine and I doubt I have any defects in my brain. I don't think they're close-minded all the time.
