Do you find diet sodas go flat really fast?

It seems like every time I pour a cup of diet Pepsi, it's flat well before I even get half done with it. Regular soda stays nice and bubbly until I'm done....hell, I've even left a can of Coke open on my nightstand and drank it in the morning and it was fine, a bit warm but fine and yummy.

is it normal diet sodas go flat ultra fast? So annoying.

It's probably the artificial sweeteners. Drink organic sodas like Zevia or Oogave.

I'll ask for it the next time I go to winco and see for myself. Well, if they have it there.

Things are only fizzy because of a process called nucleation. The carbon dioxide is attracted to an impurity which then becomes a "seed" for a bubble (or, technically condensation nuclei).

And now I'm stuck because sugars are simple isomers and in no way large enough to act as condensation nuclei, so the absence of sugar doesn't imply the absence of fizz.

I don't know, OP. You've stumped me! And now I am going to obsess about this until I ask one of the Professors at work.

    • Maybe the lack of sugar makes it less 'heavy' (or dense, I guess) and less able to contain the fizz for as long. That's just a guess, I really have no clue.

Yes its because they have artificial sugar in them I think

I think Pepsi and diet Pepsi both go flat sooner than Coke and diet coke. Switch to diet coke or coke zero.

    • I don't like diet Coke, I like regular Coke, when I switched to drinking mostly diet I found I liked the taste of diet Pepsi much better. Still had the same issue though of it going flat quick.
