Do you feel at home on the street?

When you are in public, do you feel relaxed? Or rather tensed-up? Does this change when you are with friends?
Because i'm usually kinda stressful when i'm in the public and i'm constantly aware of myself.
Maybe it's something age-bound? Because i didn't feel like this before. With friends i'm really the opposite person, only then, i feel like i can act like i'm at home.

Share your opinion/experience please. Also, is this normal?

I felt most at home on the street in my teens in the wee hours of the night.

I am not at home on the street. Too much traffic. The sidewalk is much safer.

When I start to feel overwhelmed, I retreat into my cardboard box fortress and all is right with the world.

Alone, I'm fine. With friends, I'm fine. With strangers or in a packed space, I'm not fine.

  • Relaxed. Oh and is it true that most people feel ackward/uncomfortable in elevators?

Anyway, fear is much like venom. If you focus on it (the fear/venom), your heart pumps faster and it permeates your system faster. By fearing for your life, you help end it. But by staying calm and not focusing on the venom in your body, you work against its purpose.

Don't be afraid. Choose not to focus on yourself or what you're doing in public and in time you'll find this isn't a problem for you.

Depends. The closer I am to my old dumpster, the better.

Although I don't think I always notice it I feel nervous and anxious in public. Probably because I think about my every move before I do it.

I felt good until guys started fucking that up by being creepers, which is to say that I was relaxed until I was about 10.

Yes it is an "age bound" thing. Before a certain age I would go outside and play without any concerns. Sometime around age 12 I started to notice there were other people around the neighborhood, like adults and older kids. By the time I was in my mid-teens I felt very self-conscious being out in public, like people were always watching to see what I was up to. But I eventually got over it. Now that I am an adult I know that there are other people around but I know they are just going about their own business. They don't care what I'm up to, and I don't any more care whether they approve of me or not anyway.

Sounds just like me, besides im not over the awkward-stage yet. I'd say i've passed it about 80%

I generally feel pretty comfortable walking around, unless it's late or I'm drunk or it's a scary neighborhood.

Also, am I the only one who got that song from Oliver and Company stuck in my head when I read this?

    But if you're smart

Being in public doesn't change my mood at all. Unless I'm outside and it's raining and my hair got messed up or freezy. Or I see someone that I haven't seen in years or a long time.

Sometimes I don't like walking in places with lots of people, but I'm happy when sitting down in public. I definitely feel more comfortable with friends, although that's usually because I tend to sort of forget that we're even in public when I'm with them. We're sort of in our own little world.

Depends though, on how many people there are and how I'm feeling about myself.
