  • Some people would naturally feel inclined to say that they are the smartest person in a room, because individuals may see flaws in the opinions of others, which affirms their own, making them feel smarter.

It really depends in which context of 'smarts' you are referring to. It's smart not reveal your intellect in a way that could be perceived as arrogant. It's smart to show compassion to others and diffuse arguments, debates and conflicts by remaing neutral, in vain of changing someone else's opinion.

The smart people lead without being noticed.

Being a teacher, I would say, with no ego, yes... I'm generally the smartest person in a room.

I'm the only person in the room; therefore, I am the smartest!

When I was 3 all the way up until I was 6, I was the only one in my class who could tell the time.

When I was 5 I was the only one in the whole school who could solve this lateral thinking/maze/mathsy sort of visual puzzle they showed us all. The answer was just really obvious to me, but no-one else could get it right, even the teachers and kids 7 years older than me.

When I was 10, I was the only one in the whole class who worked out where the right place to put the apostrophe was and the teacher made a big show of how great I was.

Those are the only two times where I've ever distinctly felt that way, and they were really just feelings of pride mixed with arrogance. Sometimes I get the highest score in a test, but it's been a very long time since I've been right at the top of a class (even then I have to wait for the teacher to leave the room :P).

So no, not really. Intelligence is too hard to quantify that way anyway. I'm sure a lot of people deep down think of themselves as one of the smartest, and they can't *all* be right :P

  • I'm rarely the biggest fish in a little pond. I imagine a person would feel quiet confident if they were the most intelligent individual in a room full of people most of the time. Maybe it would be like being a heavyweight UFC champion in a room full of Sheldon Cooper clones.

I wonder if extremely intelligent people feel intimidated when they eventually do come across a person who is more intelligent than they are.

HELL YES! but then again, I sometimes feel like most idiotic person ever. But seriously, sometimes I look at the people I know and just think "how in the fuck does their brain work?"

I feel Like that ALL of the time. Like when something is SO easy and the damn person is wayy off. I remember in Elementry School, the teachers would pick the bad readers to read a story or something. Or the dumb people to fingure out math

If you follow that train of thought, you will go nowhere and learn nothing. There's always something you haven't seen and something you can learn from anyone around you.

In fact, everybody feels that...humility is a fictitious bookish term...no matter how much it gets expressed in the behaviour

I don't think like that; it's not something that ever crosses my mind.

For instance right now. The only other being in the room is my cat and he's... unique.

My circle of friends, and I use that term to describe a superficial relationship, consists of some of the smartest kids in my class. They aren't a very inclusive group and I'm still kind of a joke in the group but I really have no other friends to choose from. Anyways, I feel stupid around them and to an extent most well behaved young adults.

Most of the time, but I run in rather stupid circles. I am definitely the smartest person at the bowling alley.
