Mild words like damn' and 'hell'. I'm 50 years old and have never dropped the F-bomb in front of either of my parents. That word was the most strictly forbidden word in our house. My father's rule was more about who would hear the words than the words themselves. When I was in my 20s and he was in his 50's, if he had ever heard me call (or heard about me calling) my girlfriend a bitch, a slut or a whore (all the names these so-called "men" call their women these days) he would have kicked my ass from one end of town to the next.

Hell is not a bad word it is a place. Also damn is Damnation! It means you will go to that place.

People when wanting to refer to words they do not want to say just use the first letter.

Only around my mother, because we're more open toward each other. My stepdad's really Catholic and doesn't approve.

Swear words are not bad/wrong until we give them that meaning, that being said, if I ever swore around my parents they'd whoop me and I'm 21!

my parents would kill me if i swore...but theyre racist so dont mind if i say the n word...they are really old fashioned but i think its good to not swear around them cause then when you do use a swear word it gives it that much more impact.
but my teachers do swear all the time, they even swore on one of my essays and my parents got really pissed

We are quite laid back in our house so we swear as we please and we also make fun of each other. It really depends on how your parents bring you up and mine brought me up on optimism honestly.

I hate the "f" word, so i don't use it at all. I say shit around my parents with no problems. My mom doesn't like it when I slip the "c" word.

Absolutly not! My siblings have dont this as if it is no big deal and it always bothered me. My parents also did not care if they started cussing but got upset with me for saying an innapriopiote joke. It is very disresepctuful to do this in front of your parents.

My mum swears quite a lot in front of me and I don't mind. The only one she hates is the proper C-word (Allegedly because it's misogynistic!!).

    I call bullshit on that.

I remember how shocked she was when I said "bloody".... at 13 years old! I don't know what her problem is/was.

I do swear around her on about her level, but I don't know how she'd react if I said the proper C-word.

With my mom, she doesn't seem to mind since I do it sporadically and not all the time- as long as I don't say "fuck". That seems to be the only curse word she doesn't tolerate.

As for my dad, he's less tolerant, so I try to not curse as much around him.

Fuck is the only word that is purely a derogitory word. Unlike the other words it has no auctual legitimate meaning. So if you use it you are just cussing.

I've been swearing a lot lately, mostly as a way to cope with the increasing tensions happening at home. I don't exactly try to hide it but my parents don't seem to react to it.

I think it's different if you LIVE with your parents; their house, their rules. I haven't lived with mine in ages, so I speak without sensoring myself.
