lol, Voltaire must have borrowed it from Spiderman. It's so annoying to see modern culture ripped off by time-travelling philosophers. Even worse when they get it wrong. Descartes completely misquoted Popeye's "I am what I am" musing.

This IS the exact quote from Spiderman! Since Voltaire is french, there's no way it would be an exact translation anyway. I never said that I didn't know who Voltaire was, so why would you assume I did? And if I didn't know who Voltaire was why bother to insult me?

No way to translate it exactly? I'm pretty sure it can be translated exactly. I'm not a linguistics expert, but I've been around my German grandmother for my entire life and generally the things that are unable to be translated with English equivalent words are usually slang words and things like that.
Anyway that's beside the point...I'm pretty sure that if I were quoting something like this I would give notation to the original author as opposed to a new age film that is only borrowing somebody else's work. I didn't insult you. I didn't insinuate you're intelligent. If I was powerful, I would assume as much responsibility for the world as I could. I don't believe that power is intrinsically bound to responsibility though.

Absolutely.
If i had great power, I would create world peace and save dolphins in Japan, baby seals in Alaska, create an alternative fuel source, legalize marijuana, dispose of all dangerous chemicals and keep them only with safe professional men and woman, have every school teach trust and honesty as there golden rule, try to spread acceptance, and do a lot more hippie things! It's not that easy.
Wouldn't it be stressful, and tiring? Even if you had the power would you have the stamina and ambition to do these things? And let's just take the first one, world peace, once you are able to make peace you'd have to continue to put everything into keeping it that way. I'm talking about power! I'm not talking about being God here.
But thank you, I take it that you're saying if you have power it's your responsibility to do good with it because you have it.
