PS: By "democracy" I mean REPRESENTATIVE democracy, so don't get confused (democracy and rep. dem. are different concepts).

    No, the current leaders and Corporations and everyone with power had made sure of that. They have taken over and manipulated any possible democratic way. Elections are a farse and Noone understand what Democracy really is.

      I agree, corporations own the government...at least in the U.S. Look where all the advisors in the white house are from...staight from wall Steet!

    Do I have freedom? NO! Propaganda tells me I have but I don't, I'm a slave to the millions of Euro that needs to be generated every year to prop up the 2% at the very top. If I don't have money, I die. I hate the system but I have to keep running.

    Geeki, this is not a becoming socialist government- it's a becoming a corporatist one.

    Anyway, no we do not have democracy. Congress is for sale to the highest bidder, no more than ever with the supreme court's ruling. I think we need a 100% inheritance tax for all property over $1,000,000(protects family farms/small businesses) with extremely strict "gift" giving laws with harsh penalties for those who try to violate to prevent people getting rid of it all before they die. This would begin to end the plutocracy that America currently is. Warren Buffet said having a weak inheritance tax is like "choosing the 2020 Olympic team by picking the eldest sons of the gold-medal winners in the 2000 Olympics."
    END AMERICA'S PLUTOCRACY!

    In Ireland the same political party has been in power for nearly 17years, and they're not planning on calling a general election any time soon. Why isn't the UN invading?!?!?!?!

    Representative Democracy works provided it is checked by its two counterparts: the masses and the media. The masses check the media and the government by making media and voting. The media checks society and the government by exposing faults and asking tough questions. The government checks the masses and the media by creating laws and copyright restrictions. The problem in all this is that Rupert Murdoch owns the news and is funded by the governmental parties, therefore the government is overextending its power. The solution is simple, if you have a problem with society or the government don't just bitch about it to your friends and online, make a video or a movie or write a book do draw something or make any form of art that poses the question or conveys the statement. That's the only Representative Democracy can work.

    I can't speak for the rest of the western world but the U.S. is actually a Republic...
    and freedom failed with the PATRIOT act, then died with Obama's Health Destruction Bill.
