Do you believe in 'the one' or 'the best one'?

The One --> There's only one person out there for you.

The Best One --> There's plenty of people out there for you and depending on a) how hot you are b) how much money u make c) how confident/funny you strive to be you can get someone of higher status/hotness.

So the women here who believe in "The One" are actually looking for Keanu Reeves?

I think people change often therefore you have the capacity for many lovers. People make people happy. Whether it's with them or without them.

I don't think there's just one person. I think even if you THINK someone is "the one" you're either ignoring their faults or you are blind. No one is perfect. I've always figured that nothing lasts forever because you can't be the same person forever. Major changes happen often.
You just need to find someone who changes the same ways as you. Which isn't common..

    • I think this way too.

I thought "The One" was a theory made up for young fools so that they would choose a mate in a more discriminating manner.

The concept of marriage via love (or the want of a "soul mate") hasn't been around for that long; maybe a century or two. Prior to that, a marriage was typically arranged to suit the needs of the two families, not the betrothed and certainly not love.

If you believe in the one then you are completely disregarding free will as a higher power must be at work to link two people together, i suggest you all stop watching the notebook immediately.

I believe that someone out there could be "the one". I also think that in life everyone has more than one soulmate. You might bump into one who lives 2 hours from your home, but another one could be in another country that you go your entire life without meeting. It just depends on which one you 'just happen' to come across/cross paths with, and whether or not you both realize the potential. Whichever one you end up finding they're like "the ultimate one" who, you are truly meant to be with. But I also think that people sometimes do get a little delusional, and let their feelings wisp them away. So they just settle for anyone, really, just for the sake of settling. Its something I've always been against, and I swear I will never just settle for just anyone. And I believe that a lot of times most people won't even meet the one, EVER! But they still could live happy lives with someone who they believe is 'the one'. However, it probably would never be the sort of happiness they'll get with their soulmate. But they'd never know anyway what kind of happiness they're missing out on, b/c they'll be too busy believing that when they're with the person who they think is 'the one', thats the happiest they could ever feel.

Its quite hard for me to put it into words. But as human beings I think we're bound to be fooled. So the one who we think is the one could really just be the best one in our mind, but not in our hearts and mind. I don't know how to explain really, but thats just how I see it.

That makes sense to me and reminds me a little of the movie "The Bridges of Madison County". Have you seen it?

Yeah otherwise you might have to scour the entire planet for "The One" and one of you would probably die in the process.

There is 'The One' and if you ever meet them you will know it. Until then you can be perfectly happy with someone you love deeply.

I don't believe in either. IF you wait for either you will get neither.
