Do you believe in mind over matter?

I believe in mind over matter, and know for a fact that it works for me. Just curious if anyone else practices it.

It's indisputable that there is a power of negative thinking. Just look at how stress and anxiety can cause physical pain in some people. Also think of how seeing something visually disgusting and thinking about it can cause you yourself to physically throw up.
But what people often fail to see, is the power of positive thinking.
With negative thinking, if you see something and are like omg omg omg so disgusting, i'm going to throw up, aharrasdfghgharh, BARF ! But, if you see something disgusting and just disregard it with a couldn't care less attitude, and don't think of it, you won't throw up.

If you think something is going to hurt, the more you think about the pain, the more it's going to hurt. But if you focus somewhere else, and think positive pain free thoughts, then it will ease your pain.

This idea can also apply to many other situations.

But the situation that sparked this story happened yesterday. I was having trouble getting that last chunk of poop to come out. Then I thought of something. You know how there are prosthetic hands that can move just by willing them to with your mind? Well I visualized poop going through my intestines and tried willing my insides to push the poop out (instead of flexing my muscles to push it out) and it started working instantly!!!!

Hey, I wouldn't mind having a super power so that it didn't take 10 seconds to drop 90% of your shit and then 15 minutes getting the last bit out.

Of course I believe in mind over matter. Would the placebo affect ever work if it didnt?

Somewhat. There are certainly limitations to our bodies, as I can't lift a blue whale no matter how much I think I can. However, our bodies are capable of a bit more than we normally have access to.

Stories like this demonstrate this fact. The problem is that our muscles can't handle that type of strain for long and so only high stress situations call this out, although I'm sure there are ways to put "mind over matter" and accomplish these feats without the stress.
