I think this is an American thing. I wasn't even sure what corn syrup was until recently. As non-Americans, it's not really on our edible radar. We eat other stuff.

Don't consume lots of fructose to gain weight! Lots of fructose is bad news in terms of your liver. (yay metabolic biochem class!) That's a terrible idea. If you really do want to gain weight, exercise your muscles and eat lots of protein. That way you'd put on weight in a healthy and more attractive way without straining your liver to do it.
Why do you want to gain weight, anyhow? Unless you look like skeletor, I don't see the point in it. You aren't underweight enough to look like you're starving. Your "BMI" is just below what is considered to be the lower limit of healthy, but only very slightly. That "BMI", unless you went to a doctor and had a whole test performed, doesn't mean very much. It doesn't take into account bone density, bone structure...not all peoples' frames are the same at all. Also, its been shown from many angles (cancer, heart disease, metabolism-related oxidation (ie aging), etc) that animals who consume less calories live longer and develop far less health problems. Stop trying to gain weight and accept your body. :)

  • What the manufacturers of HFCS know but aren't going to admit.. It's a toxic substance that causes your eyelashes to fall out, causes obesity much more than other foods with equal calories, is addicting (which they like because you buy more), while you don't feel full like you normally should, causes lethargy, depression, etc etc etc. It's a popular ingredient because the food won't go bad because it's a synthetic frankenstein derived from corn. It's HORRIBLE for you! Yet they want us to keep eating it! Now after 30 some years people are finally waking up, they want to change the name to CORN SUGAR.. No doubt because they want people to think of CANE SUGAR.. BASARDS!! Don't be fooled!

Here is the shit on high fructose corn syrup

someone said that high fructose corn syrup is bad for you and makes you fat and that foods with that in it are worse for you then other foods

then some manufacturers use people's ignorance to draw them in to buying products that don't have high fructose corn syrup but instead use real sugar. The reason health people talked bad about HFCS is because it was one of the only sweeteners used in junk food, not because it is any worse than sugar
It is exactly as bad and fattening as sugar. The only reason it is 'bad' is because of the calories, but because of something creepy and artificial lurking in the HFCS.

Actually, high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is worse than sugars, such as glucose and sucrose.

Commercial glucose/sucrose can contain fructose, with equal concentrations of glucose/sucrose and fructose. HFCS, on the other hand, may have up to 5% more fructose.

Unlike glucose and sucrose, fructose is nigh exclusively metabolized in the liver.

Excess fructose is turned into fat that accumulates and can cause a condition known as fatty liver disease, which can then lead to the development of fatty cysts and/or cirrhosis, and significantly increases the chance of developing liver cancer--the fifth most prevalent cancer.

Here is an article on a Princeton University study regarding some of HFCS's adverse effects on rat health:

        Hm. I meant to write:
Commercial glucose can contain fructose, with equal concentrations of glucose and fructose.

Since sucrose is glucose and fructose.

Also, I neglected to mention the issue with mercury contaminating some of the HFCS produced in 2005 . . .

I couldn't care less about this health craze we're in these days. You only have one life, and my philosophy is to do anything you want, and eat anything you want, regardless of consequences.

My opinion is this, why not just leave all processed sugar and sugar substitute products alone, none of them are good for you in any way, shape, or form. Live on naturally grown products. Whole grains, fresh veggies, fruits; {I know they contain natural sugars but do not harm you like the processed shit}: This is the main stay of my diet and I love it.

I being to feel very conscious about my health, after I read this. But I never, ever, never watch for process food that often. I think we'll regret our choices in life about consume 'full filling food' or "healthy food."

Well, it is really a matter of over-consuming fructose-containing foods. You might eat a lot of fruit, but probably not enough to be harmful.

Apples are relatively high in fructose, so let us compare apples with the popular soft drink "Coca-Cola":

One 12 ounce can of Coca-Cola would have about 22 grams of fructose. An equivalent amount of apples, or 340 grams (approx. 3 apples), has about 20.6 grams of fructose--more filling and still less fructose!

While overindulgence of fruit can be unhealthy, you would probably dislike eating them before they would cause noticeable health problems. Though, the same cannot be said for beverages that contain HFCS.

It's horrible for my digestion (like any other form of corn-based sweetener), so I try to avoid it, or at least avoid eating large amounts of it.

Im underweight (18 BMI) and cant seem to gain enough to reach a healthy weight so if im consuming High Fructose Corn Syrup its not doing its job. And im not going to put my faith in it to help my gain weight.

If a food tastes good, I tend to ignore stuff like that.
