Do you also hate it when people walk on the escalator?

OK So in my opinion you have the invention of the escalator, which is there for people who want to go to a different floor, but don't want to use the stairs / walk. And then there's the normal stairs, where you have to actually walk /fysically move yourself.

Is it just me who feels that it's annoying when people want to pass you by on the escalator, using the machine as normal stairs? And then they go 'Excuse me, could you move aside?' or 'You should stand on the right side, so people can pass by'. NO! The stairs are meant for this!

PS I don't refer to the exception of a building which doesn't have normal stairs.

Yes I also think it's irritating when people walk on an escalator 55
Yes I hate it, and next time I'll start a fight 13
Yes I hate it, but I do it myself as well 15
No I don't care 59
No I just hate people who don't want to move when I want to pass by 119

That's right. Get your ass moving. If the escalator isn't moving fast enough to blow your hair back, time is being wasted.

Yeah, walkers GTFO the escalator. This is for us fat and lazy people!

I used an escalator last year because I had a broken foot and someone abused me and swore because I wasn't moving fast enough (with a broken foot). I was too polite to tell him what I think of him and I am too polite to say such bad words here. I think you can imagine at least one of the words I had in mind, though. Fill in the rest for yourself.

Hehe, I was too shocked at the rudeness. I'm not used to Londoners. Next time I head down there, I'm going to give as good as I get, though. Even though my foot is better, I'm taking two crutches. I may even tip them with poison.

  • In a world full of selfish people who only want to hear their own story, no one's story is told.

Selfishness is a self-defeating cause. Let others pass. By helping them you help yourself.

  • I used to feel like this. I kinda wanted to hit the person with my hip lol. But now I'm guilty of this...its because I'm usually late for things and by walking up the escalators quickly it saves me a bit of time and a lot of my energy. Oh yeah and some places don't give us the option of taking regular stairs anyway so....

  • Nope. I stand on the left automatically so I'm never asked to move anyway.

Me too! I wonder if Americans stand to the right because they drive on the right side of the road.

They'd probably hate us if we went there. I'd never think to stand to the right. It just seems weird.

Oh, oh, weird fact. We drive on the left side of the road because in medieval times we used to walk on the left side of the road and let people pass on the right. It's because we didn't know if they were friendly or not and our sword was on the right hand side (most people are right-handed) and it was easier to pull it out and attack someone.

Which I sometimes feel like doing on escalators.

          • Lol I've always felt like it was an 'unspoken rule' of the footpath/escalators. It seems to be second nature for most people here to do so anyway.

Wow, never knew that. Surprise attacks on escalators with swords strapped to your waist? Yeah, totally normal :P

I like when people are considerate enough to hurry up and get out of the way. If not its very annoying. If they are walking up or down the escalator in front of you they are getting out of your way faster. If people are passing you on the escalator though that is rude in general. People are suppose to wait if they are behind someone. Its like waiting in line. So no walking on the escalator is not rude. Attempting to pass someone in front of you on the escalator is very rude.

I hate it but, I do it myself...

However if when making a move to walk up it - I follow the signage - stand to the right.

By standing to the right those who have the desire to walk up, say they need to rush, can walk up the left side.

What's more annoying is when people pepper it either side and there's no staircase in sight to dash up. Argh!

    Ha ha ha..!

I'm one of the people walking up the escalators. Unless I'm tired, I prefer being on the move. Climbing stairs is also one of the best things you can do to exercise your gluteus maximus and those high steps are ideal for that.

Just this weekend i traveled. I was on one of those moving walkways and i made sure that my bags and ass were out of the way. There is a yellow line that divides people who want to stand and those who want to walk. Escalators are the same, i try and stand over to the right cause some people want to pass. Now what REALLY pisses me off is when the fat bastards stand shoulder to shoulder not letting you go past. That is just really rediculous. Like get out the way!!!

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • That's why I always stand on the side.

Such a silly thing to be annoyed by. If there is room to pass, let them. Do you feel guilty for being lazy, or do you think you are the only one using the stairs?
