Do useless answers irritate you?

At least 80% of polls and stories get the typical handful of useless answers like "I'm not telling" or "I don't know/don't have/never had/don't get this", in a nutshell. Much of the time, it's the same few people giving such answers.

Um, OK, what's your point then? Do you want a gold star? Why do you bother?

Yes, it annoys me a lot. 35
It's annoying but I've learned to ignore it. 23
It doesn't bother me. 22
I am the person making these types of comments. 10

I'm not telling because I have never had this happen to me.

I agree. If you don't have anything to say, then don't say it.

I am perfectly aware of the irony in that statement.

Only the serial ones that think that they are witty and that their fake, stupid answers actually serve a purpose. To think of it there was only one user on the site that did this to me. I actually asked a very sad, personal question and they insulted me while not even asking the question and attempting to be funny. I look at their page and I come to find that they are like that all the time. Very disrespectful. The other ones don't annoy me actually, just this particular one I speak of, I think I would hate that B-word in person too. But theses random ones don't bother at all- adds variety.

I'm more irritated by stupid questions (not referring to this poll). There are the daily "does he/she love me" and "is it normal to eat food"...

  • Some people on IIN (even regulars) are just not intelligent enough to contribute anything more than serial idiocy in their comments. Isn't it harsh to expect more from them?

I try (and I mean try, not do) to accept that some people are just not as intelligent as others.
Just like I believe it is wrong to pick on the physically weak, I believe it's wrong to pick on the intellectually weak as well.

I don't think it has that much to do with actual intelligence, per se. I believe that some users are very intelligent but lack the will to put any thought into their answers. Although I must add that I am sure in some cases it does have to do with intelligence, but I consider more an issue of thoughtfulness most of the time.

And some users *think* that they are very intelligent or more intelligent than others but in their thinking that, they actually look like fools, especially when they try to argue for their own intelligence.

The reasoning behind the lack of intelligence in my posts? Most likely laziness and failure to fully relate with the issue. Or my own hubris, when I read a question and think "There is no way that someone can be this stupid". But that stems from my own negativity. I am filled with a lot of it. It was taught to me by my cynical anti-kindness/benefitofthedoubt parents. I apologize for that.

Users of IIN. Don't take my negativity seriously.

I just skip over people that I feel never have anything of worth to say. I usually just give wiseass remarks , so am I any better? :) but I try to be helpful when I can.

I don't usually make many stories so I wouldn't know as a OP, but as a simple observer, it does to an extent. It seems a lot of users don't really care about being helpful but more so getting their two cents in.

    not really.

    1) i have the ability to ignore things I don't want to read without actually manually ignoring someone

    2) "useless" is also a subjective description - what one person feels is useless another may feel is a valid answer

It doesn't really bother me. Sometimes, a few words can be very meaningful and all that was needed. The opposite is also the same. Getting annoyed if someone says something short is pointless and a waste of energy. Energy that could've been used for a greater purpose elsewhere.

I voted I am the type of person making these comments. But mine are more humorous not the bland shit you gave for example.

Basically I have to decipher if and what questions are worthy of my advice. I think that's humble, I think that's fair.
