Do the winter days get you down?

Winter is dark due to short days, gloomy with overcast skies, damp, cold, and not much outside is green with life. Depending on how long this season lasts in your area, maybe it can bring you down, perhaps without even consciously noticing it. Some people feel more irritable, or have increased fatigue, others feel depressed, and there are those who feel a general but persistent restlessness which is only satisfied with the full onset of Spring.

It's called a few things: cabin fever, winter blues, hibernation, seasonal depression, or (in clinical cases) seasonal affective disorder. Do you ever suffer from it? How do you cope?

January's always a sad month for me. Christmas is over, and nothing happens until Valentines' Day. When I was little I'd cry when I saw all the discarded Christmas tree.

Maybe it's because I live in a place where summer opens the gates of hell but Winter is much appreciated.

Dish out anything you want winter! I can take it...

    Summer is coming...

No, actually it's summer that puts me down. I like dark cold days but I can't stand heat and damn shiny sun. I always feel sick when I'm exposed to heat and I feel like fainting (which actually happend twice) so I prefer to stay at home in summer unless I go swimming and because I have to stay home I feel lonely and kinda sad.

I'm Scandinavian & Live in Denmark.. Winter is fine, guess you get used to it. The snow can be pretty when nature wants it to be so, but can also be quite dull when rain starts to mix with it & all the cars colour it with greyness.

But nope, it's fine... Just the way it is in a Nordic country.

I wish winter didn't exist. I can't stand the feeling of being cold. I hate snow. I hate ice outside.

If the temperature goes very down then it becomes tough for me to live in a healthy way. Cold, coughs and sometimes fever can irritate me a lot. I love winter but can't stand out extremely cold weather.

I can deal with it being dark most of the time, but what I really hate about winter is the cold, & the bare trees because they look so ugly without any leaves.

Winter is my favourite season. I feel I can really relate to it because its so different compared to the other seasons. The season(s) that seem to make me very depressed are the warmer ones. Summer has a knack for making me very suicidal for some strange reason. You have no idea how many times I've contemplated/tried to commit suicide in the summer. O_o

Mildly. But I must say, this winter has felt like a long one...

I've had more depression this winter than I've had in a long time.

I love the winter. It brings me joy when it snows. We just got 12in+ last night and it's fabulous. Yes, sometimes I feel a little bored and sick of the cold weather and lack of contrast, but it doesn't make me want it to be over any sooner. I just go into my room and huddle underneath my heating blanket and all is better.

If anything it's the other way round I love winter and I love rainy days. Nothing better than coming in from the rain and cold, warming youself up and drying yourself off

I was the only one, thus far, to choose ''Only at the end of Winter.''

Usually, I don't let it get me down. The cold days and endless amounts of snow sometimes make me feel depressed that I cannot go out and do things, as much as I'd want to.

For most of the Winter, I block this feeling and wait patiently for Spring. However, towards the end of Winter, I become antsy as Spring arrives.

Needless to say, I am antsy as hell right now, haha.

Me too. I don't let it get me down for most of the season but towards the end i just can't take it no more and just want Spring to start. February is the most depressing month of the year for me.

I get a terrible winter depression. In the last week the weather's started to get a lot less cold here, and lighter, and I feel so much better. I have a light in my bedroom which I use for an hour or two a day while working which simulates sunlight because apparently that helps. It has definitely helped a bit, but I'm not sure how much.

it does come with a certain melancholy. There are pros and cons for both seasons, but it has been scientifically proven that the Sun's UV rays emit anti depressants, so depression and suicide are more prevalent in colder parts of the world.
