It is essential that a tat be a one of a kind original that actually means something to the person, not something they picked out of a book, for it to be interesting and attractive.
I totally agree: I'm sick of seeing those celtic armbands everywhere on people who have no idea about their history.

Not all tattoos HAVE to mean something. There is a specific style of tattoo I like, and if a piece fits into that style then why not get it? Not all my tattoos have deep meanings and I still get complimented my random strangers in the supermarket for how colourful and pretty they are.
I really wish that people would quit assuming that everyone who is tattoed is deeply entrenched in some hipster, new age self-expression subculture or some dumb shit like that. I have a couple myself and pretty much everything else about me is fairly normal. I'm not about a "scene" or any of that shit. Quite frankly, it doesn't bother me at all when people say "I will never get a tattoo". I got one. I like it. I don't wake up every morning like "Ermagherd, I'm so glerd I gert taterrd".
I don't want to meet anyone who does, either.

THANK YOU. I don't get why people would assume only certain types of people get tattoos. Like the guy up there that said he wouldn't date someone with a tattoo because it wasn't his scene. What's not his scene? What scene!?
YES! I'm SO glad someone else feels the same way I do! I started getting piercings and tattoos when I was 14, before any of my friends or anyone else I even knew had them. I don't get why people feel the need to label everyone that follows a certain style, its seriously annoying.
Depends on the tattoo, it's location, it's size and the person's body type.
Some girls look awesome with a tattoo, others don't.
They look awesome on some people and actually make them more attractive... but most of the time I think they look really fugly.
More attractive, same with piercings.
Although a girl with classic mainstream tattoos is just as plain as she would have been without that tattoo.
Although they can be aesthetically pleasing, I question why one would feel the need to employ such a permanent means to superficially exhibit their interests.

And mine are neither. They just look cool. Its a fashion statement, why doesn't anyone question why someone wears a beanie, or a certain pair of boots, or a certain colour sweater?! Jesus, tattoos are JUST something people do because it looks cool, and let's not try and make it sound like people get meaningful tattoos just because they're meaningful because otherwise they could write it in a diary instead of displaying it on their skin. Its a looks thing and everyone knows it.
It all depends where and what it is. In most cases, I don't think they make someone less attractive. On the flip side, they can make someone more attractive.
Depends on how many, where they are at, what they are, and the story behind them/what they mean to the person who got them.
I'm fluent in Mandarin, so seeing any Chinese characters (or even kanji) is a little weird* and off-putting to me even if the tattoo quality is completely fine.
*Imagine if you saw someone with "HAPPINESS" in inky letters on their shoulder. That's how I feel.
Indifferent. Unless you have a face tattoo, then I question your life choices. Either A, you don't give a fuck, or B. you're committed to your alternative lifestyle and that I can respect somewhat.
I admit, you get some truly snazzy tattoos and certain people can totally pull it off.

I have piercings, tattoos, I listen to the most brutal music to grace the ears of human beings and I'm still a normal person, I don't have a scene?
I cook meals, clean the house, go to barbeques, enjoy watching series.
Tattooed people are normal people, you know.
Some people can pull it off, others can't.
Personally, I rarely find them attractive. But this one acquaintance of mine, holy jumping fuck. Her tattoo makes her even more beautiful than she already is.
Completely depends on the tattoos and the person for example of I found out someone else had a neutral milk hotel tattoo too I'd find that incredibly attractive and more than a little bit awesome
