Do solicitors at store entrances infuriate you?

At stores like Wal Mart or other large department stores, do you get so annoyed by those certain groups that they allow to solicit right by the entrance/exit? Most stores have a No Soliciting policy, but also most seem to allow select groups to set up shop outside. WHY??

Bums are one thing, this is on a whole 'nuther level!! Sooooo annoying.

YES!!! Why is this allowed?? 127
Eh, I just ignore them. 19
No, I like to fuck with them. (what do you do to them?) 4
No, it's for a good cause, let them do it. 23
Just plain 'no, they don't bother me'. 13
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

This huge Santa Claus did that with a loud bell and a bucket of money, right in front of the entrance of the grocery store where I lived. Really annoying. One day I just went: "Sorry, I don't even believe in you."

if i have time i like to screw with them. i act all interested and make them explain EVERYTHING about the product they are trying to sell and talk about payment options and when they get the paperwork out to sign, i say "no thanks" and then just walk away.. i can feel their eyes burning the back of my head but i cant help but giggle my tits off lol. but generally i only do that to the ones who dont accept my first "no thanks" so they asked for it.

I have never heard that "giggle my tits off" expression, lol.

That seems like a justified strategy to me. :)

I thought this sounded like a solicitors advert, you know where this happens?

    [A man takes a dive]
"Have you been injured at work lately?"
"Well come to Solicitors4U to claim 100% compensation!"

I thought this was a joke poll.
"Do solicitors at store entrances infuriate you?"
"If so call our Solicitor-Anti-Solicitor hotline and claim 100% compensation"

LOL, I wish all solicitors were like that.

There is a mall around here in which they will literally follow you to solicit donations for charities that I have never heard of and if you say no to them or try to turn them down then they will insult you "You're just selfish, enjoy all of your money you scrouge!" or "I'm sure I'll find a GOOD person that CARES about OTHERS" or they'll keep hounding you, "I know you have at least $1! Just $1 is that too much to ask? We take credit, debit and checks!".

    Now THAT annoys me.

    • That sucks. Buy a small air horn and bring it with you next time you go there. Teach those fucks a lesson.

Well now I only go there in my security uniform. It's even the same company that does security at the mall. Same exact uniform. They don't bother me anymore.

  • Wow, stop being such a prissy bitch about stuff, these are just kids trying to solicit donations and funds so that they can enjoy a recreational activity OR for a good cause, stop acting like you are so important or above something like that. You probably shop at Wal-Mart regularly since you sound like an ignorant red neck to begin with.

    • I prefer to choose my charities based on their financial and general track record, and if I believe in the cause, you know, silly shit like that. I do donate, just not at Wal Mart to random organizations that may or may not even be real or trustworthy.

      • Well now I understand, you're just a cheapskate. Really you should have mentioned that in the story from the beginning it would have cleared everything up.

They have to have some kind of legitimate business in order to stand at those entrances. Walmart and many others aren't going to allow them to panhandle at their door. They have to have some kind of credentials in most cases. Walmart especially doesn't like their name involved in any "fishy business". Bad for their rep.

I can sympathise. I like to know that a charity is legit. Salvation Army and Goodwill are legit charities, and I donate to them. If I am going to donate to a legit charity, I usually do it on my own time.

Absolutely fair but just a little blunt. lol. I like that they're there. It makes perfectly good sense.

Well you could just say no or be rude and ignore them.
I don't live in the US but I'm guessing they prefer younger people because they cost less money?
And the younger crowd learns what money is by earning it and what it means to have a job. :D

    • I think they're the rude ones for getting in my face when I'm just trying to get into the store, I don't think it's rude to ignore them. They shouldn't be there in the first place!! There's other places and other ways to fund raise without being so intrusive. Even if they just set up their table away from the doors, and put up signs or whatever instead of literally begging everyone who passes by, I'd be OK with that. It's the swarm and assault at the doors that bothers me most.

Okay as I said I don't live in the US so I can't know that they get in your face.
That is annoying yes, I thought they would just sit next to the entrance behind a table with a sign or a board.
But remember they are fellow people too, it's their job, they probably want a nicer job but most people don't have that choice.
And it's usually the people higher up who make the decisions, so if you really disagree with it maybe you should contact the management? ;p
There's probably a complaints or suggestions page on a walmart site, or you can visit King-walmart in his castle.
You could ignore them but I think that's rude even if they are annoying.
I'd just say "No thanks, excuse me" so they will get out of my way :D
But usually these kind of people never even approach me because I tend to walk fast and I don't look at them.
        Body language = NO, GTFO!

    • I wouldn't mind so much if they stayed back from the entrance/exit and didn't approach every single person personally. I just want to get in and out of the store!! I don't want to have to deal with this.

The ones that piss me off are the guys that stand outside of my Walmart trying to sell gym memberships. Also the man that stands outside of the mall and screams "HELL... YOUR GOING TO HELL" and chucks mini bibles at me is about five seconds from being slapped.

I use to be a girl scout and we had to stand by the entrance and exit asking everyone. We wanted to go to Didneyland!!

I can tell you I didn't like doing it though. XD Going door to door wasn't fun after the first year either but it was fun seeing how much I sold. At least I know I wouldn't want to go door to door selling stuff for a living. XP

What I don't like is when you say no thanks and they keep pestering you.
