Do people from the military make good spouses?

I'm asking because a friend of mine is dating someone from the military. I've always thought they were bad choices for spouses because they were trained to be stubborn and to follow orders and be rigid and brave; which does not work out in the real world.

Plus, most of them are kind of damaged considering the things they see on the battlefield. Only psychologically sadistic people would emerge unscathed.

No, they are psychopaths 5
No, they are sociopaths 7
Yes, love them 3
I sort of kind of like them 7
Don't care 10
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

They're not trained to be stubborn, they're trained to do what they're told. This is the most opposite of stubborn lol.

It depends firstly on the person, because not everyone from the military is the same, and secondly on what you want from a partner.

I think you should let your friend pursue a relationship with whoever he/she wants.

True story: I had a friend who married some jar head. He threatened to murder her if she ever left him and blame it on post traumatic stress disorder. Something to think about.

Now that sounds like a very healthy relationship...no problems there.

No. Because, being constantly away from home, causes them to slowly estrange themselves from their "loved" ones.

When both the man and woman are in the military, they are subborn, rigid, narrow-minded, and make each other estranged and miserable. But, they seem to find a special security in their misery that they can't get from dating a civilian.

I've dated 2 of them and I can see what you mean. Sometimes in extreme cases [i believe anyway] they've been mind controlled during their time in the military. [keep an open mind because it IS possible and the government has been well versed and able since before 1960's.. look up philadelphia experiment and montauk) anyway.. my experience has been that they can be stubborn and only want questions answered as if i were a robot.. but it really varies. I'm still in a relationship with one and it's ok.

You really cant determine it on the fact they are "Military". However most military people I have met seem to be very open minded and accepting. I am speaking mostly for people around my age in the military though. However like all groups there is good and there is bad. I tend to prefer these people though since from what I see they are usually a lot less judgmental than the rich assholes in the city. I hate city folk. Always laughing at you because your not loaded or wearing name brand clothing that costs 100$ a piece.

The question is why do you care who is she dating? I think she's old enough to follow her heart and to know what she wants. A woman won't change her mind just because a friend gave her a piece of advice. So you should be more supportive when it comes to relationships.
