Do intelligent people avoid going into politics?

If you are intelligent with unique ideas and clever ways of accomplishing tasks, do you avoid getting a job in politics? I ask because it doesn't seem like our best and brightest are entering the political arena. I mean back when the US Constitution was drafted, the best and brightest of the nation seemed to be there contributing. Today it seems like the opposite. George Bush JR only had a "C" average in school. Why can't we can't the best and brightest back in the political game so that they can make intelligent decisions on how to govern our country?

The intelligent people are probably the ones controlling the politicians...

Yes. Because going into politics would mess them up and make them less intelligent from surrounding themselves with idiots and dumbing themselves down to compensate.

    • Yes, but if one smart guy came along, wouldn't more follow? Or would the others just think the one guy isn't smart at all because after all how smart can he be if he's joining politics?

You asked "do intelligent people avoid going into politics?". You didnt ask if I think they should. I merely answered your question. Not pleased with the answer? Seek another source.
