Do i offend people?

Okay, I tend to revolve around dark and violent things. I'm not gothic, but I do like to dress in black and I find a lot of gothic things interesting such as gothic art, poetry, alchemy, etc. I'm a writer, and the kind of things I write are mostly horror. I love vampires (not the lame twilight kind), witches, ghost, and original fairy-tales (not the Disney spoofs, but I mean the one's that came straight out of Brothers Grimm). My whole world tends to revolve around death, darknes, and horror, but that's not to say I'm not a happy person. I very much have am fascinated by life, as well, and I'm just closer to the dark of the world a little more than most people.

Anyway, all of this being said, my family hates it. They think I need to change my facebook book I have gothic photos on there, and my username is Darkprincess. They don't like that I buy alchemy jewelry and where a lot of black because they say that it gives a bad impression. Personally, I don't care what people think of me, but is my attire really offensive? They tell me I shouldn't be so dark, but does the darkness offend people. I didn't have many friends in high school, moslty sat by myself at lunch, but the people I did talk to didn't seem to be offended by it (but I guess that's because they had the same interest. Duh!) In middle school theater, I got a repituation for having "dead boyfriend jokes". I've gotten the "crazy" face a few times before after showing people a few of my collected photos. I can kind of understand that because the photos I collect are pretty morbid, but I've gotten the face from the stories I've written too, and I see that as just entertainment. It's no different than going to see a horror film. This isn't necessarily an "Is It Normal" question. I assume it is normal because I've had friends that are the same way, but I just want to know if it offends people or not.

My mother thought the same way. However I didn't wear black or gravitate towards the goth kids. She just assumed I would. She was worried that I would offend people just by being myself. Kind of fucked up but she just wanted me to fit in.

People find offense in silly places. And no matter how much you try to match the ideas of others, someone will take offense to it. Don't give it a second thought. Who cares if you make someone uncomfortable, that is their problem, not yours.

If they find it offensive, then they should just stay away from you. I personally don't see why anyone would find it offensive, but then again, there a lots of stupid people in this world.. Anyway, if you don't see anything wrong with the way you are, then there's no need to change. Just live your life and don't care if other are offended or not.

If you want to see some dark shit, study criminal justice, and place focus on human trafficking. Also, bestgore.com if you want to test your gag reflex.

Otherwise, if folks are offended by what you do they're probably a bit overly sheltered and could benefit from seeing some thing out if the ordinary.

And there is no need to have patience with Criminal Justice, unless you mean you're too impatient to uhm... read?

But, whatever you want to do I guess.

  • No need to change, people are different. If you want people to change their opinion of you, it won't happen unless you change, and that doesn't mean you should change.

I don't think your closer to the "dark of the world" more than others, closer to the dark myths and stories, such as vampires, etc shows that.

Liking dark things doesn't make anyone evil, so people won't see you as such, but they may see it as irritating, which people do for no valid reason but it happens.

Dark in the sense of supernatural and dark stories, yes.
Not evil in the main sense that Evil wears a mask of innocence and wouldn't make their likes so known to the public and would dress in ways most would like.

No need to change, there's nothing wrong.

I was just like this as a child and people always thought I was morbid, cruel and insane for it. They thought I would grow up to kill someone and this is the impression most people get. So no it is not that you are offensive it is that you are not so perfect and wholesome and Innocent little kiddies are suppose to be. Be who you want to be since they will always judge you for what you are. This does not make you monster and it does not make you bad. Ignore them and do not change because by doing this you are losing yourself. So do not bend to what the world wants you to confirm to. As long as you are not skinning animals for fun and pinning it on your wall and have dead bodies in your basement this is not really a big deal.

Neither am I and that is my point. Long as you are not murdering and have dead bodies in your basement it shouldn't really matter what people think of you. Be who you want to be and do not anyone judge you. You are not the wholesome image that society has set force. This is how they will always see you no-matter how young you are. Since you are not the excepted norm it will be rejected.

I love it when people decribe themselves ad a goth, and you're thinking.. Okay, so tehy're goth.. and the they're like "But i'm not goth!! " It's like "Once I gave this guy a blowjob... but i'm not gay!!" LOL To answer your question, I don't find it offensive, as long as you're not a little snot like the girl that was in my school. On a different side of the spectrum though, I had a friend who was goth, and a church lady saw all his tattoos and such and told him he was going to hell. This guy was a decent guy, never caused trouble for anyone, but he offended this lady just with his appearance. I think alot of people associate it with teh devil or whatnot so they do see it as a offensive. Or some people may even see it as you trying to stand out and be cool, so in turn they think you're not cool, and then don't like you. I've seen it before. I myself, am the opposite from you. I love bright colours, sunshine, hello kitty. But I don't get offended when I see people like that.. It really depend on the person

That church lady you described sounds very judgemental. It's funny because I'm actually of the Christian faith. I mean, I'm not a whole lot religious and I don't go to church every Sunday but I do believe in the Christian faith. And she has a nerve to point out someone else, but she must have forgotten it's a sin to judge.

I don't think some people find it offensive, some people are just stupid and maybe scared? No one sits next to me on the bus because of the way I look, they give me funny looks and move on, that kind of thing.I'm not sure really. It DOES offend others.
In your own words: "my family hates it"

Not only that, but if you actually have your own children one day, and they see this shit, I think you won't hear the end of their screaming.

Seriously its not going to work in the long run.
Writing stories is one thing (a good thing) But having morbid pictures around? VERY strange.

I hope its something you grow out of personally.
Supernatural and fiction (being the same thing) is really meant for teenagers playing around. Once you're older it just won't fit into normal society unless you're going to be an undertaker.

Yes its true I tend to go against the crowd.
But quite obviously I'm on your family's side on this.

Its just the appearance, the images, the look!
Its like KeddersPrincess said, these images are usually rated R for restricted audience. Its not for the general public to see.
I can honestly see women walking past staring in disgust if these things are presented outside the home. Although obviously its not a sexist issue.

I suppose what I meant about fiction was that we all do grow up. Yes its all fun and amusing seeing scary movies etc, but not ALL the time. Plus no one expects to live that way!

Really the writing is good. Even pictures in a book or on a movie screen. But not in real life or at home. I mean what type of girl is going to be invited around to stay the night? Obviously sweet and innocent is off the list.

Pretty sure most girls would take one look and say, woops wrong house, I'm outta here before you decide to use living examples in your pics.

Just think how your parents would think of this. Their only escape would be knowing (!) that oneday you'll hopefully grow out of this morbid fascination. Again writing books or creating movies could be a worthwhile excellent idea. But living it? No.

My parents used to hate the way I look and the things I'm into. But they know the person behind it all, and I'm a sweet and loving person, who honestly wouldn't hurt a fly. I still don't understand how people are offended by the way I or similar people look. We won't do anything to you! We dress the way we do because it's like a different culture. The stuff we're into, music wise, film wise, everything wise is reflected in our clothes, our jewellery. In that sense, I feel that it's wonderful to be this way. It's like being free, because we are the way we want to be. Normal things don't appeal to me, they bore me. Which is another reason I'm like this, and I'm sure many others would feel the same. When you get past the exterior, we're really lovely people.

You just need to learn to accept us, just because we're different does not mean we are bad.

Well, I don't want to ever have kids. I despise them, and I'd rather saw off my arms and legs than ever have to raise some of my own. I've been like this all my life, really. I don't think that supernatural and fiction is for teenagers, but for anyone who likes to expand the limits of their imagination. Which is why movies like "Underworld", "Blade", the first two "Terminatiors" are rated R. Those are directed at older adults as much at young adults. But to let you in on my age, I'll be 20 in Septemeber.
