Do i have insomia?

I'm 22 y/o. For like 6 years, normally I sleep after 12 a.m.

I tried to sleep earlier but I can't.

When, I try to make my self sleep, there are a lot of things running on my mind.
During weekends or any rest day, I always wake up after noon.
And during work days, I can wake up to 7:00 a.m sharp even I had slept for just 2-3 hours.

There are times that I feel the need to drink alcohol for me to be able to sleep.
There are also times, that I go to work without having any sleep for like 24-36 hours.

Months ago, drinking was working (sleeping earlier). But currently, no matter how many beers I have drank, I can't sleep. I can sleep like if I'm so relax (which is very rare) or very drunk (which would take a lot of beers). Being relax would work but that, for me, would be so rare. And I can't choose being drunk to go to sleep, because the problem now would be waking up early, which I rarely do when I'm drunk.

I'm scared. Seriously. Am I insomniac? I don't want to be. I kept denying it from people, but it is obvious.

I'm tired, there were times that I almost cried because of it. And recently, I am having flash back about me, crying because I can't sleep. And I really remember it. I woke up my Mom, and she just told me that close my eyes and relax. I wish I still had that dependence with my Mom.

Note: I'm writing this now, 4:00 am here and I drunk.

Yes, you need to start getting rid of it 17
No, it happens to everyone 8
Maybe, I am not really sure 8

Drinking alcohol will NOT help with a sleep disorder. Drinking may help you fall asleep, but it is proven to reduce the quality of sleep so much that it is just about the worst way to self medicate. You can try over the counter sleeping pills for a short period of time to help readjust your circadian rhythm, but if the problem is ongoing, you should definitely see a doctor.

Stop drinking alcohol to put yourself to sleep, that will only make it worse and in the morning you'll might have a hangover and feel much more tired than usual and also the alcohol will make you dehydrated(i know it sounds weird, but alcohol actually dehydrates even though it's a liquid that you're ingesting)
I suggest you to make an appointment with a neurologist and a psychologist, the first one for you to go through an exam called "polissonography" which analizes your sleep cycle for about 8 hours(you go to the clinic and you sleep there for that period of time, and while you're sleeping you'll have some wires attatched to your head that will keep track of what's going on in your brain while you're asleep/or not.); and i suggested the psychologist for you just so you can erase the possibility of suffering from anxiety, depression, and other mental problems that also lead to insomnia.
And also, TURN OFF YOUR PHONE WHEN YOU GO TO SLEEP!! Don't scroll all over the internet just for the sake of not being able to sleep. The light that comes out of your phone screen will keep your brain activity high and that won't make your task to sleep any easier! And yes, it's completly normal to suffer from insomnia once in a while, but if your case is chronic, you need to seek for help because that's not going to be good for your mental/physical health.
I'm also an insomniac and a pre-med student, so feel free to ask/share anything to me and i'll be glad to try and help you! :D

Well, all I can say is thank you. I'll try to talk to our psychologist at school (yeah, I'm still studying)... Now I'm considering the usage of sleeping pills, yet I'm having second thoughts because I might get dependent in using pills. I'll just ask an advice from our psychologist... BTW, thank you, really.

Some people just run on a different schedule than most. 5 years in the music business showed me that my body was much happier and performed much better if I slept from 4AM to 9AM than 11PM to 8Am.
Figure out how to use the extra time you have at night constructively and stop stressing about something you obviously have no control over, and do not need to worry about.
