Do i have borderline personality disorder?

I think I might have BPD...

I always change moods, like every few hours, from depression/anger to ecstatic/hyper. I sometimes get really angry over nothing, and the only way for me to take out the anger is on myself. When I'm depressed, I cut and scratch - sometimes punch - myself, and I want to stop. Sometimes I think about scuicide
But half the time I'm really hyper.. But I don't like that either. It's really hard for me to keep a hold on my thoughts.
I have had only one relationship, and it didn't work because it was really on-off..if you know what I mean. Only now I look back at it as me having dramatic mood swings.
I have taken some online tests and they said I have, but I want a real opinion.
No-one in my family is BPD but I have been diagnosed with cyclothymia.. But I think it's wrongly diagnosed BPD.

I will never understand why people come here to ask about serious mental and physical diseases.

"I have taken some online tests and they said I have, but I want a real opinion."

I actually lol'd. No offense. Online tests are laughable and IIN doesn't count as a "real opinion". Go see a professional, not an online forum of anonymous strangers. The best we can do is give you amateur wikipedia advice and say "yep, sounds like BPD!"

Seriously. BPD and suicidal tendencies are serious matters.
    Please go see a psychiatrist.

Yh, I am going to see a physiatrist for a diagnosis, but I wanted an opinion first :) Not like an online test reading through my results and claryfiying the possibilities of me having BPD...
But I see your point about posting on a website to strangers about a serious mental illness.I wasn't looking for a diagnosis!

      Peace out, MrSchizo

Oh okay, that's good to know. Mental illness isn't as easy as a checklist, so it's good that you're meeting with someone who can help. My only advice is that you try to be patient - it took me a while to find a helpful therapist I liked, and even then it wasn't as if she could snap her fingers and fix me. Anyway, I hope it turns out well.

Couldn't answer it because I'm no medical expert here. I also agree on taciturn's comment; seek help with an actual psychiatrist.

You are a teenager. You get mood swings.

I was wrongly diagnosed with BPD when exhibiting the same behaviour as you. In my twenties, this behaviour has modified itself.

  • I have to agree that online tests of personality dissorders are laughable. I took one out of curiousity and got these results.

    Paranoid - Very high
    Schizoid - Very high
    Schitzotypical - Very high
    Histrionice - Moderate
    Narcissism - Very high
    Antisocial - Very high
    Avoidant - High
    Dependend - Low
    Obsessive complusive - Moderate

Clearly that is an example of how online mental health checks shouldn't be reliable...

      • I might have problems, I doubt I do, although even if I did, I doubt I would have these as my problems.

I definitely agree that you should see a professional, but even they usually don 't diagnose you correctly...not because they are stupid but because it takes hours to really diagnose you and you will have to go many times before they even can begin to give you a correct diagnoses...many people are still not correctly diagnosed after 10years of going to a psychiatrist ...especially in trying to tell the difference between borderline and bi-polar or other sub types of depression and personality disorders...bi polar and borderline often look alike in so many respects...the difference I have seen is that in borderlines...they are specifically set off into the extreme mood by relationship stuff..like feeling, rejected, abandoned, unloved, used etc...whereas bi Polar can be set off in everyday frustrations...many people have both conditions and some experts believe that one sort of causes the other...bi Polar also tend to cycle in and out and you can tell this by their sleep patterns...they will go from sleeping 10 hours every night to 2 hours, etc...

I've been diagnosed with BPD, and although you do have some of the symptoms I don't believe you have enough to really say whether or not you have it. There's more to it than crazy mood swings, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts and urges.
