Disrespectful to leave your shoes on in someone's house?

This really bothers me. Today I just about freaked because it snowed and there was mud tracked all through my house from my boyfriend's friends.

Yes, it's very disrespectful and rude 125
Nah, I do it all the time, who cares 40
Only if the house is already clean 47

If the house is a ****hole, who cares? If your shoes are clean, why bother? If the house is cleans and your shoes are covered in mud, it's probably a good idea to take them off. If the person you're visiting is from Japan, you had BETTER take those goddamn shoes off.

I will only leave my shoes on in someone's house if the floor is dirtier than outside. Yes, I've known a lot of gross friends... but that's not how I live and it really offends me when people just mindlessly muck up my floors.

If I walk into a party or get together I usually look at what the host is doing... if their shoes are off I take mine off, if not then I don't

When I have my own house, I'll make sure nobody leaves their shoes on while inside. Otherwise, nobody seems to care around here, but I still take my shoes off anyway and make sure to bring slippers with me in case the floor is dirtier than outside as ladyday said. I know a lot of people like that as well. haha

I usually ask if I have to take my shoes off. But I find it weird wearing shoes inside. Shoes are for outside.

Shoes need to come off in my house and I do the same in the homes of others out of respect. I find it highly offensive when folks keep their shoes on in my home.

I find it disrespectful. Even when the person says its okay. I still insist on it. I've been taught this when I was younger. Plus I think when you have a guest take off their shoes it makes them feel more at home.

I hate wearing shoes. I take them off and leave them outside the door where possible when visiting. At work I take them off (I work in people's homes) and at home I take them off, and ask others to, too.

I read somewhere that a large amount of contaminants (including lead, dunno why that one sticks in my mind, but it does) are brought into homes through wearing of shoes inside. I have no idea where I read this, so I can't back it up and I'm too lazy too Google right this second.

Also, it's better for your feet to not wear shoes.

I really wonder sometimes how people were brought up. Here in the UK whilst it's not a unversal practice to remove your shoes at the door, it is good manner to always ask when you visit someone to always ask if you should. It's usually obvious here when a house is shoes off, when the householder answers barefoot or in slippers and there are shoes stored by the door. I always ask first if I am uncertain. My family know to ask. Given our somewhat wet and cold climate, the majority of people wear slippers most of the time so it's a good idea to take a pair with you. Guest slippers are not viewed favourably here. The alternative is to have cold feet. But the bottom line is to always ask first.

    Other:

It depends on the house and what the house rules are.

Unless you're in Japan. Then you take your shoes off.

I typically ask them what the rules are...If they walk around in their shoes, as will I...

BUT...in your case, that was very negligent and douchebaggy. i hope youth threw a bitch fit.

  • I can take off my shoes but you have to feel the smell of my socks all the time.

I would never wear my shoes in anyone's house. I think it's different in different countries but I've only come across a couple households in my lifetime that allow shoes to be worn inside. I live in Canada.

It's rude if the homeowner doesn't want you to wear your shoes inside

I usually take mine off, unless they are coll with it, or if they want me to leave them on, and if thats so, I make sure they are clean.

In my house, I wouldent care either way, except if you have bad foot odor. If you leave them on, make sure they are clean.

Depends. If it's got hardwood floors, it's not so bad. But clean carpet might be a little rude.

If the floor is very dirty, its better to have shoes

Depends on the culture you grow up in or the way you were raise. I was brought up where you don't wear shoes in the house, so I automatically take off my shoes when I go over to anyones house. I mean in Asia when you walk into a home you always take off your shoes (and (maybe) put on house slippers). Just depends...

In my own house, I take off my shoes because I hate the sweaty feeling and I think shoes are uncomfortable.

In other people's homes, I feel rude if I do not take off my shoes because that is what clean, normal people do and I want to be polite. My house is always fairly messy and I was not raised to have manners, but in other people's homes I don't want to feel like a nuisance for having no manners.

You should always make to take them off (not if you're a man, though, prob... like with gross- oh smell- oh feet)... when they see you, they'll either not say anything or just wave at you to not... If you Ask, it's a bit forward... or like you're Trying too hard to be polite/nice... it's unnatural. Maybe they'd get suspicious haha

...also, it's like.. "should I take off my shoes?" "would you prefer that I" lalalalla.... it's like... you don't really want to... "please don't make me do thisssss"... which is rude

With me, I was raised to remove my shoes before I enter the house(or walk on the carpet)..Now it goes everywhere with me. When I am at someone else's house/shack/duplex/apartment/etc, I automatically take my shoes off. Without asking and it's kinda sad but ppl have a reaction to it when I do it. They say there are not used to seeing people do that or where did I get such good manners?? I usually smile it off..it's really a no brainer..But even if some people are the opposite, It wouldnt bother me any if you did leave ur shoes on..so Idk
