Dirty hands

ok, so I see people coughing into their hands or picking their noses/scratching their asscracks/adjusting their balls in the grocery store all the damn time. Like in the produce section, people will pick up a piece of fruit or something, grope it and then put it back. They paw all over shopping carts and so on. Do people really not realize how gross it is? is this normal now? I'm not a germaphobe, but I won't touch a shopping cart until I've wiped the entire thing down like I'm freaking Jason Bourne.

    I agree.

You have an immune system that works well. Keep things clean and forget about.

Has everyone forgotten about the immune system? It takes care of these things.

that's why you wash your produce REALLY well after you purchase it, or grow your own. i think of those things too. i constantly wash my hands.

This is normal, I'm a bit of hand washer myself. You can't be too careful. I see how it can become obnoxiously redundant though. And I agree that we would all perish if we sterikized everything but the point is that we can also get very sick if someone's fecal matter is on a bunch of grapes that we don't clean correctly. There is a line between sanitation and insanity...it's up to each individual to draw their own. Good Luck!

ummmm well, think of it this way, if you dont ingest those germs and become immune to them, will that make you susceptible to something else in the future? and yeah, the wiping down of the shopping cart is a little weird.

When I drop a piece of food on the floor, I pick it up and eat it. It's GOOD to let bacteria and viruses into your body. I get sick like maybe once every 2 years. It's mostly just snot and sweat on those grocery baskets anyway...

  • It is not good to think about these things but it does help to keep your immune system working. We cant have it totally sterile or wed all die.

Over here they have this kind of trash bag thingy that goes over a shopping cart and when you get to the cashier - they would remove the bag revealing the new one below.

Shoppers also have disposable gloves provided which they must wear at all times while shopping. Which I think it an excellent idea to minimise contamination.

@ Tobra - I don't see why you must continue on this little crusade against the United Kingdom.

      Oh, wow.

I prefer not to think about it. When you think about bacteria and viruses, things seem like they're alive (which they all are, covered in bacteria). I think it's ridiculous to have plastic covers for shopping carts and to make people wear gloves. Let's not let our immune systems get THAT out of practice....

How about, say, washing our hands after using the bathroom, wearing condoms for sex and not licking the floor or underneath a movie theatre seat?

      I think that's sufficient.

    • Wow that is the first time I have ever heard of such a thing. Why is this a "requirement?"

      • NeoFalcon

Well it's not a requirement as our current Food safely laws do not state we must have it but the supermarket had made a choice on it's own accord to introduce it.

    • sorry. Brings back bad memories.

In fairness, I WILL try and stop.

Corrected, and for the better for it - Thanks. :)

i actually agree with you (minus the wiping down the shopping cart part). You should wear gloves and get that antibacterial hand sanitizer gel, and maybe buy packaged food?
