Difficulty with swallowing, iin? (please help!!!!)

Lately, (a few months) I've have been having increasingly difficulty with getting food down. The food seems to have a knack for getting caught in places. I often have difficulty swallowing the food and getting it to go down. Sometimes, I feel as though I am chocking and can't breathe.

I am not having allergic reactions. I have a very specific and restricted diet due to: religion, allergies and for optimum nutrition.

I have tried switching to puréed fruit baby food and to my dismay, I feel like I am starting to have difficulty with this too. I'm iffy about eating regular fruit for fear that this will cause me an issue.

A few years back, I had eating disorders and this issue I am having now would have delighted me. However, I love food now and this is starting to make me miserable and worried about eating.

I've discovered that I pretty much can't sit and eat. I get the most problems like this. I think that it may be due to having scoliosis and when I sit, things get compressed.

I tried standing and at first, this was better. Now I am having problems this way too. Perhaps, I am not standing correctly and things are still being compressed?

Maybe, I scarf my food down too quickly? I have been slowing down and taking smaller bites, lately. I've been trying to drink liquids when I eat, instead of going without. It's been helping a little bit.

Sorry, if you found this long. Is this normal?

No, no, no. This is not normal in any way. It is not due to scoliosis or the position in which you are sitting. You shouldn't have trouble swallowing in any position. It could be a problem with your tonsils, swollen lymphnodes, or something much, much worse. You need to see a doctor immediately, as in TOMORROW.

    • Thank you. Turns out that I was having allergic reactions. I have since removed the offenders from my diet and I am happy to report that I can now eat without fear of choking. My food is going down like it should, with or without the accompaniment of liquids.

Absolutely NOT normal. See your GM and they will likely refer you to a specialist.

    • I'm okay now. It was allergies to certain things in my diet.

    • Thank you, but I rarely get sick. I am quite certain that food allergies were the culprit now.
