    • I was innocent then I was broken. I'm working on getting back to the laughing.

        • Not at all what I expected. I've made some mistakes along the way and I'd say im behind where I should be at my age. But im working on it and above all else working on being happy with myself.

We all have but in general life is still pretty good.

I didn't expect much, but I did expect to have some kind of career by now. I feel like I'm on the right track though...I think I'll make it if I keep going.

    • That is a good outlook. Sometimes things happen that knock us off track but keep your goals in mind and keep working.

I wanted it all and I got it all: wealth, adventure, accomplishment, and the esoteric knowledge of the elite. There is only one thing that I never will have.

I`m turning 24 and life is not what I had expected it to be at this age ten years ago.
At 24 I had expected to at least have some work-experience.

Thankfully I am not alone in this in my country however.

You are asking a group of people who have barely lived...

Me, I am still on my journey. I didn't really have any specific expectations. Just to be happy and true to myself. I think I'm doing a pretty good job.

    • I should have added a 'are you happy so far are you where you thought you'd be at this point in life'

That is a great way to be. I'm working on doing the same still have a ways to go though .

I suppose it's a matter of perspective. I rather not think about it like that. Did I expected it to be like this? No. Am I content? Not either.

I'd change many things like dropping out of high school and getting addicted to drugs(that I no longer use btw). But you know that's life for you. One of the saddest things is waste of talent, you can have all the talent in the world, but that won't be worth nothing if you don't make the right choices.

    • I can't tell you how similar our stories are and how much I relate to you on that. I'm so glad you got clean that is a huge feat and something you should be very proud of. You are absolutely right don't waste you talents.

I think it's going alright so far. It could've worked out a little better, not too much.

I honestly don't know. Growing up, my family moved around a lot and most of the houses had some sort of infestation. I was so tired of it that I wanted to own my own home one day. I achieved that goal back in 2008 when my mother needed a cosigner for a home. It was a shitty idea to hastily sign up for a home that way. Also the mortgage is kind of high. I should have waited longer.
I've been at Target for a decade and I'm happy to be there. Though lately other people have got me questioning whether or not I'm really happy there and perhaps I just picked a point in my life to crash at due to not knowing what to do with my life.

    • I can relate to you in a lot of ways. I've had a similar situation. You'll just have to reevaluate everything to find if your truly happy or not. I hope you get it sorted out. Life's is too short to not be happy!

Thank, op. I'm still thinking about it and trying to determine whether or not I'm happy. It's confusing, but Ima figure it out.

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a ship's captain and I did manage to accomplish that. After I read Joshua Slocum's book (age 8 or so), I wanted to sail around the world and I got to do that, too, at a much younger age than most.
What I didn't expect was to have more than one marriage, but I guess it all worked out for the best, as I love my present wife and we are very happy together. I doubt that had either of my two previous marriages lasted until now, that I would still be sailing, and I wouldn't have had such a great sail from Martinique to St Lucia, today.

    • Things that happen unexpectedly or throw a wrench in the plan can turn out to be blessings in disguise. I'm so happy that you are sailing and that's what you love to do. Not too many accomplish what they set out to do.

I have to admit, a great deal of the ease with which I was able to do so, was because of luck.
If my friend hadn't been running late, he never would have had to take me to the gig with his band, that allowed me the opportunity to be come a road manager. That in turn facilitated my retirement at 22 with the funds to buy my first big boat and set out on my circumnavigation. Etc. etc.
But looking forward and being open to opportunities that present themselves is a greater part of successful living.
Giving up at 19 (or whatever young age) and sinking into depression for no really good reason, is counter productive to achieving anything or successful living.
"Don’t take life so seriously, it’s not like you are going to get out of it alive.", isn't too bad a way to look at things, IMO.
