Did you vote to legalize, or would you have if you were a californian?

For some reason, the fact that Prop. 19 failed to pass makes me want to smoke a huge rainbow-blend bowl in defiance of 3.5 million nay-sayers. "Forgive them, for they know not what they do..."

No, but seriously -- who's smoking right now, who voted to legalize, and who's going to vote to legalize in 2012?

I voted to legalize in 2010 and will do the same in 2012 20
I didn't vote at all in 2010 but I'll vote to legalize in 2012 8
I voted no in 2010 but will vote yes in 2012 0
I voted yes in 2010 but will not vote or will vote no in 2012 0
I didn't vote in 2010 and I won't vote in 2012 either 3
I voted no in 2010 and I'll vote no in 2012, too 8
I am not a Californian but would vote yes if I could 110
I am not a Californian but would vote no if I could 18
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I'm not sure California really needs it legalized right now. I mean they already own the market on the highest unemployment rates and you want to toss getting stoned into the mix?

So what? People make a huge deal about that and I really don't see why. Alaska has permitted the cultivation and possession of Cannabis since 1975 or something like that. The only major difference is that Alaska doesn't regulate or tax it officially. Would that change REALLY be enough to cause a huge explosion between State and Feds, when Alaska has been going along minding its own business on that point for decades now?

Sorry, I don't buy it. Maybe if Bush were still at the helm that would be a more reasonable concern, but something tells me that Obama has other things to do than get into a petty power struggle with California over cannabis.

And even if it did cause some kind of stir-up, why does no one suggest that this may be precisely what's needed? Quite frankly, the Federal scheduling system is a crock. It's completely disconnected from science and reason alike. Maybe total rebellion from one of the biggest and most powerful states in the Union is exactly what's needed to get the Feds to actually LOOK at the stupid scheduling system again and realize how completely borked it is.

I am a Californian, and I voted yes. However, a lot of the problem with legalizing it in CA is that it is still ILLEGAL federally, which makes it hard to control to keep it in CA.

That's not the problem, the problem is the federal government.

It got pwned by a wave of attack ads and quivering-in-boots. No, but seriously, it's actually a stealth victory -- because now the debate isn't about WHETHER to legalize, it's about HOW to legalize. People voted no on 19 not because they didn't want cannabis legalized, but because they thought 19 was poorly written. And they've got a point. That's why, in 1012, we'll be bringing out the -real- proposition to legalize. This time it'll be much better composed (if I have anything to say about it!)

Honestly, we'll try until it happens. Irrationality and injustice will not be allowed to stand.

the only reason why i voted yes was because of the proven medical benefits and th plant it self and be turned into hemp which can be used to make clothing. The plant can be used for more than just getting high.

Marijuana is a natural drug, it does wonders. But if you wanna start smoking it, always go organic, make sure its not laced. It helps a lot of people that have many problems.

  • I feel like we should legalize it... But we should sell pot at drug stores or doctors offices. Too many teens are smoking pot and a survey showed that about 60% of teens who smoked pot have thought about suicide...more than once! We should be careful with it is all.

Intoothandclaw touched on the base of this entire problem(Arizonan advocating to push the recently passed cancer-only use into a more California-esque legalized use), which is the Federal government's drug scheduling system. The mere fact that some drugs(ALCOHOL!) are legalized, despite extensive research suggesting they are both less valueable to the government and more dangerous to users suggests that the US is too focused on minor issues as a normal(no pun towards the site intended haha). Weed is only ever considered a gateway drug because of it's legal status and not it's effects, which are not comparable to any other illegal or monitored substance, outside of the whole "spice" deal, which is actually the only other popularly used cannaboid. Weed should be as legal as alcohol, and alcohol should be more legal.
