Nah, they couldn't afford to. My mum used to save up all year, though, and give us a daily allowance on our two week summer holiday. It was enough for a bar of chocolate or a drink and it was every day (although mine was always gone by 10am).
I had to work for it. If I wanted $10 to go to the movies my parents made me do extra chores around the house to earn it.
No.
My Dad had a regimen for like two months of a $5 a week allowance but he was also military and if I left a crumb on the counter or forgot to hang a towel he didn't give it to me.
Other than that, no, my Mom couldn't afford it and my Dad didn't see my having any use for money. They basically told me that my "allowance" was my clothes and food and the gifts that they bought for me for my birthday or Christmas and that I was an ungrateful little bitch and lucky that I got what I did and that I wasn't in foster care.
God no wonder I left. Now that I think of it, my parents were kind of mean.
We got given $5 a week, and we were always moaning because all our friends at school were getting at least $10. Then we found out our next door neighbour only got $2 a week, and when we saw her mother giving her money to her she was sooo thankful, jumping up and down, giving her mother a big hug telling her thank you and that she loves her like it was $50. That made us look like ungrateful little brats lol.
Not only did I not get any allowance, from the age of 14 I helped paying the bills.
Is an allowance the same as pocket money?
I used to get about 50p a week for doing chores. That went up to £2 when I was about 13, then I stopped getting any when I turned 15.
My family was too poor to give me an allowance. Every once in a while my dad gave my sister and I one dollar each. I got creative on how to spend it on junkfood.
Yes. I got allowance monthly, and the formula was Allowance=5(age-2). I probably started getting it when I was about 6 or 7. There's a catch, though. If I wanted anything that wasn't strictly necessary, such as toys, junk food, or clothes I didn't need, I had to buy it for myself (except for Yule and my birthday). I was also expected to do my own laundry, but I don't know if that was part of the allowance thing.
Not exactly. I just ask them for whatever I need and they'll get it for me. If I need cash, it's either because I want to go shopping, but other than that I always have to give a valid reason.
I got one on and off. I can't remember the age where I was able to persuade them to give me an allowance. Then I stopped getting one until my therapist came up with this shitty goal system, where in which my mother would set a amount and during the week I'd have to meet the goals to get the amount. It didn't work after awhile because I got lazy. I figured I could do exactly the same things and still get a substantial allowance, but after a few months the amount I got had dwindled into the single digits. So, we decided to call it quits because it wasn't worth it.
yes. i had one until 27. probably would have been better if i hadn't to gain a more realistic outlook on money. Better late than never.
I never got an allowance but when I needed somthing they usually got it for me.
Only once. When I got it, I went across the street to buy something and nearly got hit by a car. My parents were furious and that was the first, last, and only time I got allowance.
When I was little, around the ages 5-10, my parents gave me an allowance of $10 a week. But when the recession hit that quickly stopped and I can't say I blame them.
When I was 17, my parents stopped buying things like shampoo, makeup, clothes, etc. and gave me $20 per week. But I was only given the money if I did what I was supposed to, which included: cutting the grass, dishes, laundry. It was then up to me to save it the money or buy whatever I needed that week.
