You're not allowing for the fact that the "kids" and "children" you refer to were girls in their teens as far as I know from reports, so I don't know why you would be surprised or sceptical that so many predatory men were interested in them.

Let's say you are a political player, womanizer, crooked and desiring the most powerful position. Why not set up a scum bag friend (Epstein) he can take these nice little trinkets he has and entertain some of the most powerful political and business leaders from around the world. Video tape them and use it as black mail but not by Epstein, by the political player for money as well as favors. Money comes in the form of contributions. Political player pays or launders money to Epstein, and the circle gets bigger and bigger, crosses party lines and political player becomes most powerful player in the world. If you cross him you most likely will have a terrible accident. He gets what he want's sets up a foundation to continue milking in as much money as possible, set his wife and family up to continue the powerful input. Oops, a misstep happens now it's cover up time. Use the influence to distract people while he bust, kills, and confiscates any evidence. As Clean as it's done, there's still a leak called QAnon that has to be squashed as an unfounded conspiracy other wise it will all come falling down. Many many powerful political, world, and business leaders would be implicated. Long hypothetical story with no foundation would make a good movie though.

I haven't given all that much attention to the Epstein saga, but my understanding is that he was into teenage girls. I recall watching a video of one of his victims talking about her dealings with him, and she said that he and the odious Ghislaine Maxwell got her to recruit girls who attended some Palm Beach high school.

Those girls were children in the legal sense, they were still children in the emotional development sense, and he manipulated, abused and exploited them for his sexual gratification and that of his circle of scumbag pals. That's bad enough, but it wasn't like he was involved in kidnapping five year olds who were on their way home from elementary school or something.

Men who are sexually attracted to small children are - thankfully - not all that common, but I'm sure a helluva lot of men are sexually attracted to teenage girls who are below the age of consent and therefore legally children.

As for Epstein "selling" the girls, I have no idea if he actually did that in the sense that a pimp sells a prostitute's sexual services. I suspect, though, that it wasn't as crass as money actually changing hands. I think it's more likely that him making "girlfriends" available to his pals was more about him gaining power and influence over those who fell for it. I recall reading that a large number of videos were confiscated during raids on his properties. I don't remember hearing anything more about that, so maybe they were just videos of Epstein doing things with the girls. But I wouldn't be shocked if other men also featured, and he kept the videos as leverage to make sure nobody in his circle ratted him out.
